Apparently school starts tomorrow. For several years, the school year has started on the 25th of the month. We thought that my niece and nephew (as well as two cousins, some friend's children...) would start school on the 31st. Apparently, we were wrong. School starts tomorrow for the kids. My nephew was supposed to go to the high school his mom and myself (as well as various other members of the family) went to but that would have meant changing his address to here. Which would have been no problem, had my sister gotten that change in on time. In any case, this is his freshman year. My niece is in the fifth grade. Wow how time flies! Are any of your kids (of any relation) headed back to school yet?

I have young relatives heading back to school on the first. None of them live around here. I am a substitute teacher. I am excited for my first day of school whenever it is. I bought a new pair of slacks!

Do you ever get a call in during the first month back?

@paigea I am trying to think back to my years in school. I remember vaguely having a sub the first day of school but I don't remember why. It seems we had that teacher for a few months so I it might have been maternity leave.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, there are a lot of meetings in September. I have worked the first day of school and I have needed a sub the first day of school back when I was teaching full time. Those weren't for meetings but family things that came up. Another thing that happens is enrollment is more than expected and they need a sub while they get a new teacher hired. So, while I don't expect a call the first week, it certainly happens.

I don't have anyone in school anymore, but the bells don't ring until the day after Labour Day up here in Ontario.

Is your labor day the same as ours then? September 5th is ours.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yeah they are on the same day. I think that the only holiday that we celebrate on another day is Thanksgiving Day, ours is in October and yours in November. Other than that all of the holidays that we celebrate are on the same days.

When I was in school it started August 2nd, I think my nephew had a few years of it starting that early but am not for certain. I think starting it to so late and ending it so late is just weird.
