Crying

I wrote this for Bubblews back in April 2014: My granddaughter called me a few days ago freaking out. She had awakened crying. I calmed her down and told her that crying was a good thing. So many people freak out if they feel like crying. I don't understand this. Elephants cry. Now in emotional crying the body actually expels prolactin, Leu-enkephalin and adrenocorticotropic hormone, and even the elements potassium and manganese. Some researchers think that crying is a release of these hormones when levels get too high. Some say that people cry to get a response from another person or removing toxins from the body or relieving stress. Socially others think they think more clearly after a good cry. I tend to agree. Sobbing, weeping, wailing, whimpering, bawling, or blubbering are other sad ways of describing crying.I think sometimes we cry because we don't really know what else to do. When in all reality we are over tired, at the end of our rope, or in some way upset. We cry and are able then to move on from that feeling. The natural response I get from people I have talked to about crying is that they freak out. They don't want to cry. They feel weak or uncomfortable when they cry. I think it scares them. I don't think they should feel this way. I think people should feel relieved when they cry. Crying is a release the body gives us. Like steam. What are your thoughts on crying?

I can't remember the last time I cried, but I can understand that it's an emotional release for some.

@celticeagle No - I might 'well up' sometimes if something moves me, but that's about it.

@jaboUK .....That's a shame. I almost enjoy a good cry from time to time.

I feel relieved when I cry, but I want to cry when no one else is around.

Yes, it seems to make some feel weak and they are embarrassed.

I might be a bit worried if I woke up and was already crying and had no idea why

Yes, that was a freaky dream she had. What is scary is having a dream that would evoke that kind of emotion and then not remembering it.

I think crying is a good thing. After you have a good cry you feel so much better. You need to let those emotions out. It does no good to keep them bottled up inside. Whether you are a male or female there is no shame in crying.

That is great to hear. I so agree. Why some think it is so awful to cry I don't know. I think that a male that crys shows he is more in touch with his feelings.

@celticeagle I totally agree with that. I have seen my fiance cry a number of times. That is one of the many things that I love about him. He isn't afraid to show his emotions.
