Finally, I Finished Saving My 200 Items.

Tonight I finished saving the remainder of my items from WDC the writing site where I got my start in 2007. I do have one more large item to remove and I'm figuring out how much of it I want to save. It's my blog and it's all done in separate entries. It's considered a book on that site and with my lower membership books aren't allowed as they take more storage. That in itself could take another day. I've already begun working on it, but took a break to get another thirty-four more items removed yesterday and today. If the blog were in a different format I could keep it there, but I double-checked with a senior mod to make sure, and I do need to get what I want before it's locked from me. I picked this particular images since I'll soon be free to mylot once again, once I complete my blog removal. I know I'm missing out on the last minute race to the finish line at months end, but that's okay.

I could have probably let a large portion of it go without saving it, but it was interesting seeing what all I wrote about through the years. I save the portions that related to dates and time periods for different things for posterity's sake just in case I'll need to know some of that again. Some of it I didn't bother saving though. I also did copy and paste what I'm keeping there for the future when and if I ever close my account. That way I won't have to go through this again. Many people save what they write as they write it and that would be the ideal thing to do. I've not built that habit yet though, so I have to do it in a lump sum fashion unfortunately.

@MarshaMusselman I kind of fondly remember my early Epinions pieces, from 2000 or so. It's funny to see how my thought processes have changed, and how they've stayed the same.

I still have some Epinions and Bubblews posts saved. I haven't used any on MyLot, though.

I did a lot of tutorials on bubblews which would work better on hubpages, but I'd have to relearn starting a new article there and haven't wanted to put that extra time in yet. I also didn't get back early enough to save what I wanted from that site.

@MarshaMusselman I did a lot of fluffy posts there near the end. I saved most of the ones I wanted. I have some cool informational ones from my early days there that I might post here.

Hopefully you get what you need here too. I took so much time saving lots of my squidoo lenses and did very little with any of them. Disappointed mostly because I saved the pictures from the lenses in thumbnail size without realizing and now can't use them.

I don't think I bothered saving anything from squidoo or associated content, but I didn't have much at either place. I don't have much at hubpages either, but I have saved those.

I never heard of WDC, are they closing is that why you are removing your work?

No, I doubt that they'll ever close. They've been around more than ten years already, but they are not a paying site. You actually pay them to host your work and you can make it so no one can read what you've written, or designate exactly who can see it. I began my writing career there and was pretty involved until finding bubblews. I used to keep up my membership fees with doing reviews and contests and auctions on the site. Last year I paid money for it and this time I decided to downsize my membership. What I have until midnight tonight is the ability to store 250 items there along with images. Starting tomorrow I can only store 50 items and no images. When you downgrade your membership, they don't delete your writing, but rather lock it from you having access. I'm thinking if I ever got the higher membership it would become available to me again, but I doubt that I'll be active there anymore. That's mainly because I don't have time for more than one place at a time.

It's a hard job to save everything from a blog. I am glad to see you back here.

@MarshaMusselman There are tasks so annoying that we try to postpone the work as much as we can. I have to scan a group of old invoices and I drag my feet on that.

Now that I saw that I could stay away when the task calls for it, I should do the same and get back at my bookkeeping, but I'm not looking forward to doing that one iota, and been dragging my feet on that. I'm sure it will take me a day or so to get my brain wrapped around where I left off in June again. Maybe I'll take a break mylotting a bit first.

You've had quite a job on your hands doing all that removing - I hope you get the blog done soon.

I only have until tomorrow, probably at midnight to get what I want after that it gets locked. I don't think they delete it from the site, but possibly lock it in case a member ups their membership again, then it would be intact as it was before. So, I probably won't go to the trouble of deleting each entry whether I save them or not, but I do want to peek at some of the older ones to see if there's any info there I forgot about. I already found info on when my knees bothered me years ago and when it happend and various and other things.

I am intrigued. WDC? I have never heard of this site. I think most of us end uo having to retrieve sruff from writing sites. Is this one about to fail?

No, it's been going strong over ten years and will never fail. I think the owners are fairly young yet, and they've had family illness and it still stands. It's a site where a few of us here got our start. I began there in 2007 before finding any writing sites that paid money. This one works in gift points. The gift points can never be turned in for cash or gift cards, but rather works to buy higher memberships or items in their shops. It's a good place for newer writers that want to improve their craft and the community there is pretty good too. Rather than responding or commenting on items written, you do reviews and get points by the system for those reviews. It's not related to the algorithms involved on paying to write sites, but rather something set up by that site alone. There were about five people from there that followed me or someone else to bubblews and one that came here. There are also two other individuals that still write me to this day. One did write on bubblews, also but sporadically, the other never did.

I wished I knew how to make them too. She made several types of images for me and then I figured out what each would say. Maybe one day, after I'm not working so many hours I'll ask her to share some of her secrets on that. I'm not sure that she would, but you never know. I even purchased Adobe's photoshop in 2009 with the intention of figuring it out, but never learned anything about that program. What a waste of my money.
