Another catch-up Jessa Lyn @Jessicalynnt poetry challenge piece, this time inspired by and using the five words ‘Adrift, bitter, flow, need, and lost’.
Poem Flotsam And Jetsam
Cast adrift, discombobulated
My grip on reality is somewhat dislocated.
I need to know what time it is and where I am
But I can’t even tell the difference between marmalade and jam
Or why white always moves first in a game of chess
Which sounds racist to me – Am I really such a mess?
People tell me I should chill out and roll with the flow
But down the plughole to the sewers is not where I want to go.
I’d rather go against the tide, hiding away inside
Until the invasion of the utterly pointless is through
Or I find something useful and meaningful to do.
I crave directions, but not One Direction
Or some other boy band juke box selection.
I’m lost, all at sea in an ocean of trivial concerns
Embittered by swirling, eddying twists and turns
Such as why a guitar G-String became the name for a near naked gusset
And just what the point is behind Selfies – I simply can’t suss it.
I’m feeling sea-sick, and jaded and increasingly torn
Like the brand new jeans I see sold with holes before they’ve been worn,
Ripped into them before they even get to the shop.
I wish I could make the petty niggling little worries stop
So I can reflect on the important things in life
Such as why we suffer conflict, crimes, sickness and strife
Rather than who to vote for on reality TV
Or whether the opposing football team deserved their winning penalty.
Socrates died for corrupting the mind
I wonder what he would think if he was to find
Himself cast into our narrow minded modern society
Where crap comes in every colour and variety
And no one considers the important stuff –
Time to change the subject – I’ve had enough.

lovely!!!!! I have also thought that Martin Luther King Jr would be utterly SICK to see the nonsense that has happened since he fought so hard for equality. Instead of taking the opportunity and getting education and bettering oneself, so many have bought into the thug and criminal nonsense or expect governmental handouts, because they "deserve" it.
