Earlier this month we took our car to get it's first oil change! During the visit - we were asked if we wanted a tire rotation and "if" it's needed it'd cost $35. We agreed because a tire rotation is recommended by 7,000 miles anyway.
Once our oil change was completed, the technician said our car didn't need a rotation yet and to come back later.. (disappointing because they want us to come back in 500 miles)
... Well same month and we're 400 miles in, so I called a local tire spot that my dad recommended, asked how much they charged. The manager told me they'll do it for me for free! I made an appointment and today we went to get our tires rotated.
They did a great job, and even though they're busy- they didn't refuse customers. They also give free tire pressure checks which is very nice!
Reasons to rotate your tires every 5,000 - 7,000 miles:
- By rotating your tires you will be maximizing the life of your tires
- Rotating your tires will prolong the tread life of your tires and you will get even tread wear
- Not only will your tires wear evenly, you will also improve gas mileage, good tire performance and a smoother/comfortable ride.
And if your car isn't driving straight and pulling to the left/right then it's recommended to rotate and balance. But since our car is still new, we didn't need it.
For my first car, by rotating properly - I was able to get by with 35,000 miles without changing my tires. For my parents', they got by with 45,000 miles without having to change their tires!
So ultimately, you're even saving money!
Do you maintain your tires well?

That's awesome that BMW provides free service all the time! Must be nice!
When we purchased our car new, they said they would cover the maintenance for the first 2 years.. And when we went to service our first oil change, the rotation didn't need it yet.. BUT they said it'd be charged. I should have read the fine print.. My dad when he bought his Toyota SUV, he was given 2 years maintenance free or 20,000 miles or something whichever came first..

No. Even when I owned a truck I didn't do so. They'll probably kick me out of the Guy Club for admitting that.

Did your tires wear alright? My boyfriend used to not prior when I dated him and he'd change tires all the time! Now they're lasting well!

@infatuatedbby - Probably not. Hey, I needed that money for gas and lift tickets so I could go snowboarding!

The second place was very generous!

They didn't offer any promotion like free oil change? We bought our car 9 months ago - we get 2 years of oil changes free but for rotation of the tires its important to prolong our tires

Yes! If you buy tires, most places let you rotate free and recommend it.

I used to have my mechanic do a rotation every annual check up I had done. It's a smart idea. The Les Schwab Tire Store here does it free for the life of the tires.

Yes cars are like humans. We need to look after our cars and service them so often

It isn't common to own a car in the Philippines because you have a lot of public transportation or motor bikes?
