My first day in Southport

I arrived at Southport railway station around 12-30, so I have been here around 6 hours or so now. After booking into the guest house I strolled around for a few hours and was pleasantly surprised. Southport is certainly a much nicer resort than I realised. Today I simply wandered around the town and shopping areas then called at a cafe for the traditional fish and chips. Tomorrow I plan on taking a stroll around the promenade area, which appears to be equipped with several fairground stalls. I may have retired but I am still not too old for the fairground.

Now I am envious, I never had a real fish and chips in a cafe near the sea. Send some to my way Barry, please.

That does surprise me Anna. Over here it is almost a tradition to have fish and chips whenever we visit the seaside because the fish are usually quite large and fresh.

@LadyDuck I doubt whether many people drive to Italy from Britain, but I expect that a few may.

@Asylum This must be very good. We were in Milano this morning and had lunch with my mother. I cannot believe how many people are still going to Italy for vacation. Most of the cars on the roads were from Germany, Belgium and Holland, too many of them, it took forever to drive 75 Km.

Fish and chips with mushy peas, I trust. Enjoy!

I had forgotten about the fact that I was at a seaside resort, so I was a little taken aback when I was charged £9-60.

@Asylum A little steep, yes. I hope it was worth it.

No body is too old for the fairground.I think the cost of that fish and chips is very high.

The cost of the fish and chips was outrageous, but it seems the logical meal at the seaside.

@silvermist They had the usual variety of meals, but I automatically asked for fish and chips.

No one is too old to go to the fairgrounds.. So I take it you are on vacation? I don't really go on vacation, but this year we might actually observe Sukkot at a campsite with other people, that will be super fun!!!

I remember staying at Southport when I was working at the races at Aintree, but I didn't have time to explore too much.

@Asylum I went there for 17 years on the trot when I worked for the Tote. We used to get the train from Ormskirk to the races to avoid the traffic.

I doubt if I would visit often because it would become less attractive give after a while.
