We have a ton of tomatoes that are just hanging on the vine by their "fingertips" Does anyone know the best way to preserve them for future use? The former owners left us a large freezer but I have no idea how you go about freezing tomatoes. Is there anything that you have to do to them before dumping them into the freezer??

You have some good comments here. I think you need to cook them in some way first.

I don't believe that I have ever frozen a glut of tomatoes but I would certainly cook them into a basic tomato sauce before freezing them (and also boil off some of the water whilst I was about it to save space). I'd then freeze it in blocks about equvalent to a can - 14 to 16 oz - so that it would be easy to use in a bolognese sauce or a beef stew or something.

I would make a big batch of tomato sauce.I do not think who tomato should be in the freezer? Soup, you can do a lot of things if you feel ambition.
