Storage Tips

I have always loved cooking my own food rather than buying and with that i am forced to figure out ways of making sure my supplies are worth their while and that i have options. Every month i visit the farmers market to buy my potatoes carrots, tomatoes, onions...just to name a few, but with bulk buying there's a storage challenge. So for anyone who would like to follow my lead here are some tips. - store dry potatoes in a dark area on top of old news papers - fill up a container with water drop your carrots in, and refrigerate. they will stay fresh for quite some time. -spring onions can be stored in an air tight container and refrigerated. Red onions will need to be aired, and put out in the sun for a short period this is for curing purposes. more tips, feel free to add them in the comments

Those are pretty much what we do too... except for the carrots, we just put them in an air tight container and refrigerated, didn't know about putting them in water... Welcome aboard, by the way... I don't have more storage tips, but I can give you a bit of tip about myLot tags... If you intended the words to be separate tags, you have to separate them with comas... Without a coma between them, they become one long tag and would not be as effective.

@tandia that what i said, we don't refrigerate onions and garlic here. so when you wrote 'red onions will need to be aired, and put out in the sun' it made me think that maybe people in other countries refrigerate theirs.

you shouldn't refrigerate them, they last longer when put out in a warm airy place

I don't buy food much anymore as I eat at work. What I do have is tinned stuff as it keeps for longer as when I buy fresh stuff I never eat it all and have no space for a big freezer. PS...when you tag things add commas between the words or it comes out as one big tag which isn't much use

I also love to cook my own food when I was living independently. But now that I am living again in my parents house, I am to lazy to cook. And sometimes if my mood works for me I cook and if not, I end up buying food.
