Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend and that your weather is as nice as ours has been. I have a question for anyone who can help. I am looking for a good free antivirus if there is such a thing. There are several out there and I don't know which ones are good and reliable. Any help would be appreciated and thanks so much in advance!

I use Avast, and it has performed wonderfully. I figured it must be a pretty good antivirus program, because it is the software that the University of Florida requires all it's students to use.

If the University uses it, then it must be pretty good. Thanks for the information. I think I am going to use Avast.

It seems like quite a few people use Avast and are happy with it. That is probably what I will use.

I can see some computer techy people replied and I have had the same anti-virus they suggested and felt they were good. However, a couple years ago when my laptop was having issues, I had this guy clean up my computer and one thing he removed was AVG. Instead he downloaded IObit and I love it. The antivirus has a sad face on the icon when you need to scan, when I open the anti malware, it will let me know if my computer has issues or not. They also have a program to keep drivers updated and an uninstaller, to completely remove programs you don't want. Like most downloads, this also has options for a couple things,I think one is a program to store your passwords, but I just uncheck the box every time it updates, because I don't want any extras. Here is the link if you want to check it out and I would be curious to see if @DaddyEvil or @Asylum has any feedback on this.
High-performing software products to speed up computer, fix & clean registry and malware, optimize PC games, tune up Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista, XP, etc.

I have never tried this particular antivirus and therefore cannot offer any opinion. Of course many of them have options to update other programs or to uninstall, but I never use those features.

@BelleStarr I'm sure I will be happy with it. As long as it's not too difficult to run. So far, I've only downloaded it. I need to run a scan on my computer.

i run malwarebytes, but also 've avira. used to use avg, but they let a gremlin sneak'n, then run wild so i switched to malwarebytes. ya still don't get 's much protection, usin' the free schtuff, 's ya do if'n ya purchase a good'un. 'course, then those tend to slow schtuff down fer some reason?

I've been using Avast Antivirus for years. It's free and is a 5 star rated antivirus program. I've also use AVG - it's good, but when they do their scan, you can't work on the computer until it's finished. Avast does everything in the background and keeps you updated that you are up to date. They do give you a few weeks to decide if you like it before you register it for your computer, but that is also free.

@franxav The freeware programs are often the exact same program as the payware ones! I KNOW for a fact that both Avira and Avast are the exact same programs for free that you get if you pay for their payware versions! They are rated number 1 in the U.S. for anti-virus programs! Both the payware and the freeware versions.

How about AVG? Or Avast? I remember working in a BPO, our computer we are using is under AVG's care. So far it was good.

I think I have already given my opinion on your discussion, Sharon? I usually try to answer the actual question, but I may not have realized I was on a different question. I think I was called to this earlier? I'm sorry, I took my medication some time ago and I am getting quite confused.

I used Panda for several years and it did well. I purchased and renewed it annually online. Two years ago, however, my friend who owns a computer store asked me to try Kaspersky (also the paid version) and I'm using it till now on my PC and it has given enough protection to my computer.
