Same sex marriage

This topic seems to be floating around non stop with people discussing it and debating about it. What's the issue? If you males and females love each other why can't they be together. Why can a male and female get married and a male and male and female and female can't. I have talked to quite a few same sex couples, who are very cute together and live a happy life.
What's your take?

I've no problem with it.
I'm not a particular supporter of gay rights as such but I do support equal rights.
I do have a slight issue with the "hate crime" legislation as it makes doing/saying something to someone worse depending on who the victim is.
For example...I come out of a club, get a load of abuse and a punch in the face.
A gay person comes out of a club, gets a load of abuse and a punch in the face.
We both get abused, we both get the same injury and yet the person who punched me will face lesser consequences than the person who hit the gay person as that'd be seen as a hate crime.
In my opinion that is not equality.

@IlijaMarkovski Took me ages to get this comment up...seems to be jumping to the top of the page when I hit like or comment
Anyway, I do think it is unfair...a gay person is not less of a person than me but he/she is no more of an important person than me.
Why should they be treated differently to me?
