The Tale of the Mallard Ducks - Today is supposed to be the final holiday of the summer - "Labor Day." Ergo, I will labor a wee bit. Outside of these walls is thunder and lightning, such that the worms are rising in the gardens and the golfers are running for the clubhouses. Me? I am sitting at my messy desk, pounding away on my ten-dollar keyboard, wondering if I should dare Thor to toss a lightning bolt or two in this direction and screw up this old computer for once and for all. I thought about the rain and the water to be fed into the lakes and the streams - and what that water will mean to the critters that hang out in those damp places. Of all the critters who make those watering holes their homes, maybe the prettiest of them all is the wiggle-tailed Mallard duck. Lots of colors from head to toe, this pretty bird floats around atop the water and, now and then, tips over with its tail way up in the air and its pretty head under the waves, There are fish down there to be caught and swallowed. "Two Mallards can catch more fish than can one Mallard." So it was that I thought. So I developed a two-headed Mallard. One thing I forgot to do, however. That one thing was, how can I get my newly-born, two-headed Mallard duck to catch even one little fishie? Looks to me like this is one pretty bird who is going to be mighty hungry before the sun goes down. * * * * * * * * * * Image source: Original photo from Pixabay dot com, Edit by Gus Kilthau * * * * * * * * * *

I think you're right there. You'll just have to create some fish for them that are exceptionally easy to catch.

@JudyEv - Ms Judy - Well, maybe I already created one back a while ago... a two-tailed fishie. But some other critters already ate the little guy. That double-duckie will have to look about under the waves for another catch. The video has the deal about "Two-Tail." -Gus-

@bunnybon7 - If they are both sporting pretty rings on their "fingers," you are probably correct as to their married status. If both of them are singing, dancing, and splashing around in the mud puddles in your yard, they are simply considering marriage. -Gus-

@bunnybon7 - When your neighbors inquired about their kind, the 2 big ducks told those neighbors that they were not at all kind, but meaner than angry vultures. How unkind can a bird get? So, you see, somebody knows. -Gus-

I think your two-headed duck looks very pretty, but I think the fish would be quite safe. As in the case of a lot of birds, the male is much more showy than the female. The female mallard is dull brown.

@Ceerios You may be a lot of things, but dull isn't one of them

@jaboUK - Ms Janet - Aha. You are correct. I met someone just the other day who asserted that I was "as sharp as a wet noodle." -Gus-
