The movie Concussion, an extremely urgent message

This needs to be required viewing by every parent. It's a true story of Doctor Bennett Emalu who discovered the reason why so many players in the NFL (National Football League) suffered brain injuries and subsequent disorders that sometimes led to suicide. It really focused awareness of the dangers of any head injury and trauma to the brain. When you think about the force of the violence against the skull (especially in contact sports like football), it's easy to see the damage that can be done. Research now shows that each new head injury compounds previous injuries to the brain. The movie has a few objectionable words, but the message is too urgent and important to be ignored.

From what you describe I too think everyone should see this and get that message.

I have not seen it, though I have witnessed many head traumas as a nurse. My children have no interest in contact sports, and I do not encourage them.

You've seen first hand the danger. I plan to "discourage" my grandsons from any interest in playing football.

thank you for sharing that .. yes indeed, it's important to learn about the damage concussion can do to the brain if you have young children who are involve in sports .. My ex husband played soccer for years and I now believe that somehow he got some trauma in his brain ..

@epiffanie That's really sad. Sometimes you have no choice when danger is present.

Our Australian Rules football results in concussion quite often. Several footballers have had the sense to retire after a couple of bouts of concussion. Let's hope they haven't left it too late.

I'm afraid too many people don't want to lose the money and fame, even at the cost of their health.

@1creekgirl That's true. It's all they know, they love the game and many do get used to the adulation and would miss that if they gave it up.

I read in the comments below that you have had a concussion recently. How are you now? Thank you, by the way, for suggesting the movie. I'll definitely make it a point to watch it.

The concussion is almost gone, thanks for asking. Just have to heal from the fall, but God is merciful.

This was an awesome movie. I really enjoyed it and I think anybody who plays sports or have family who plays sports then need to watch this movie.

@1creekgirl Yes they can. My daughter had a few concussions when she was a cheerleader. She had to give it up because the doctor warned her that if she had another one it could leave permanent damage.

I remember reading about his discoveries. Do you ever wonder why these kind of games are popular in the first place?

I've never liked football, but it's extremely popular in the US. Plus it's a very profitable business empire.

I am not a huge football fan, mostly the local college only and I have no kids so never had to worry about this. I many sports are dangerous at times.
