Disturbed By the Jubilation

Phyllis Schlafly died Monday. She was 92, so I think everyone would say she lived a long life. But what disturbs me is the jubilation over this woman's death. You'd think Hitler had died, or some mass murderer had received what was coming to him. No, the "tolerant" liberal world is dancing in the streets over this woman's death. Now, I'm no Phyllis Schafly fan. I think she had some incredibly naïve (or maybe she really thought the world worked this way, which makes the beliefs rather idiotic) beliefs. She claimed that married women can't be raped by their husbands because when she gets married she's automatically consenting to sex (and if she truly thought that, then my heart breaks for a woman who lived that long with that jaded an opinion of marriage and/or sex). She crusaded against the Equal Rights Amendment, claiming it would lead to gay rights. (Well, we have gay rights but no Equal Rights Amendment....guess she was wrong about that!) I have a general opinion that people who try to legislate their religion do far more harm than good. Additionally, didn't we learn back in the 1920s that you cannot legislate morality with the Prohibition amendment? That didn't stop anyone from drinking; worse, it gave rise to organized crime and "gangsters." I think the best way to change a position is to change a person's heart, not to beat them over the head with a Bible. (As I used to tell some people, Bible thumping is no substitute for opening the Bible and reading it.) But really, jumping for joy that a human being died, just because they didn't agree with her politics? Wow.

It was all the hypocrite liberal haters dancing in the streets. You know, those people claiming to be for peace and love who accuse others of hate and racism when they are the biggest and most vicious haters.

That is sad. I've never heard of her but that's okay. Obviously she affected a lot of people. And I totally agree with the Bible thumping bit.
