Here in Latvia especially in the suburbs like where we live and out in the country houses tend to be very old-fashioned. If your house is not a very modern structure or an elegant mansion then it is just a place to live comfortably and to have a roof over your head. This means that our house needs to be heated by placing coal into the heater in the basement so that this archaic central heating system can heat the house. Unfortunately for us one very cold winter certain pipes burst and since we couldn’t afford a major renovation the hallways and the kitchen wound up with no heat. So when we heat the house from the basement it heat two of the main rooms and that has to do for us. The house also has no hot water but since we added a washing machine that heats up the water itself my hubby decided we should also have a hot water heater.
Our first one worked fine for a number of years and then one day it just up and died. Unfortunately at that time it was not in our finances to just go out and purchase a new one. So for several years we lived like the pioneers did and heat up large pots of water for washing and for any other reason we required hot water. Then last autumn we finally purchased another hot water heater. It was like a luxury to turn on the tap and have hot water coming out. Now just as the cold autumn is ready to blow in the water heater decided to go on the blink. I though oh, no here we go again.
Fortunately my hubby is a whiz at fixing electric items and he carefully checked out the water heater. The good news is that it was just some loose wiring and now we are back in the hot water business.
How is your home sweet home? Is everything running as it should?

If you have to go without a few of these conveniences for a while you certainly appreciate them when they come back on.
