Oops. Gary Johnson, Third Party Presidential candidate, asks … "What is Aleppo?"

United States

Have the hopes of Third Party Presidential candidate Gary Johnson supporters just been dashed? When questioned by Mike Barnicle on MSNBC’s Morning Joe show this morning regarding his thoughts on Aleppo if he became President, Johnson responded with a “deer in the headlights” stare and the mind-boggling answer “What is Aleppo?” While keeping pace with the outrageous happenings of this election year, this is maybe too outrageous? Really, anyone wishing to be President of the United States needs to have an inkling of what is going on in the world and in the news. Anyone barely following this election knows what and where Aleppo is or should know. For those hoping Johnson was more than a diversion from Trump and Clinton and more than a die-hard supporter of legalizing marijuana, this could be the day of reckoning. Now what do they do? Can they find someone else to vote for? Will they stand by their candidate or just stay home on Election Day? The pickings have been really slim this election and they just got a lot slimmer. Believe it or not, he did! Not a good thing for someone who wants to be President.

@LadyDuck I kinda can, I've learned to not expect much from politicians... But tis?! No...Just no... Though it shows Democrats are pretty gung-ho about getting Hillary into office, because this guy seems perfect for a manipulative figurehead they can spread their nonsensial agenda through.

@LindaCPearson You are right, this is scary, all the world has the eyes fixed on the situation in Aleppo and this guy does not even know that Aleppo is the biggest city in Syria.

He killed any chance he had of being elected or affecting the vote when he uttered those words. His ignorance is astounding. A candidate should be knowledgeable about world situations. Aleppo has been in the news repeatedly with heartbreaking stories. Who has not seen the photos of that five-year-old sitting in an ambulance, covered with blood? There was a chlorine gas attack. Photos of people carrying limp children in their arms are gut wrenching. How could he not know about Aleppo?

I guess the demands are so pinnacled to the highest quality of standards for wannabe-presidents to know and be well-informed on everything. We can excuse Mr. Johnson for being himself, he's open to much more learning. And that's a sign of good leadership. I think.
