Have you ever experienced to be bullied?

While I was walking downstairs going to the office, my students approached me and asked me if I wanted to buy a blouse for him. He and his classmates laughed afterwards. This student of mine loves fashion very much and the way he said those words to me was like he was looking down on me for the way I dress. I have found that my students love comparing their professors. Most of the female professors always wear different kinds of attire every day. I do not belong to those kinds. Honestly, I do not love buying clothes. I'd rather spend my money buying books or saving them rather than buying things for myself. I do not care if I use the same blouse every day that I meet them. My blouse is clean, neat, and appropriate. It is not a big deal for me for I am just a simple person. I am in the university to teach them and not to ramp as a model of clothes. Thanks for reading my post and have a good day fellow mylotters!

I am surprised that students would "bully" or mock their professor there. Is this kind of thing rare? I hope so!

I have witnessed how students in high school bullied their teachers too. It is sad but true. Some students really do not know how to give respect.

If a student thinks he can bully a teacher, he or she will feel empowered by his or her classmates to bully anyone. I think you need to take that student in hand and let him know he cannot bully you. Then he will have respect for you and know he will not be able to get away with such behavior.

I do not know how to handle such case. I am afraid I might say something inappropriate to my student. I usually stay quiet and serious when I encounter such bullying.

@annierose Talk to your principal about the student and get advice from him or her.

I have had my days of being bullied at workplace and college. But now I can't stand the bullies and the crap around.

That is quite disrespectful of that student. I hope they don't do that often.

Sometimes we , teachers, should really have to look good in front of our students. We stand and talk in front of them all day and they look at us from head to foot. Students are so observable how their teachers dress up everyday. We serve as their model. That's why it is good if the school has employees' uniform. We don't have to buy expensive clothes but at least we look respectable and neat all the time.

I hope so that our university will give us uniforms to wear. I just meet those students of mine once a week. I am not bothered with what I wear because I think it is appropriate.

Glad to see that you are not bothered to change yourself for such shallow people. Their mentality does not travel beyond getting pleasure out of humiliating others. You are simply perfect, and there is no improving perfection . Simple people are beautiful from inside. Just applying an ounce of make up on their faces or wearing colourful clothes doesn't make them holy or above others. The people who matter to you value you for who you are, that gives enough satisfaction to be happy. Such irrelevant students should just be tuned out of your system. They are not worth to be changed for. Even if you try bringing in any change in yourself for them, they will simply find a new reason to humiliate. They will learn their real lessons much later in life. P.S.: the next time they try to make fun of you, accept it gracefully with a smile. Nothing kills an attempt at humiliation more than the refusal to feel humiliated at all. If their attempts do not affect you, they then question themselves as to why they are even trying at all.

Thank you for such wonderful comment. I accept me as me. I don't feel insecure toward other professors. I appreciate myself as what I am and as long as I think that my acts are appropriate, I am not bothered.

I have been bullied and it's an awful feeling. =( I am more simple like you as well. I don't need to always be dressed up or keep up with the fashion. If I am comfortable and look nice, it's okay with me. =)

Hi Jennifer! It does make me sad but I tell myself to be a strong person. I know my worth so I don't have to be affected by them looking down on me just because I don't act like a fashionable person.

True! I think once in a while we are being bullied by some people not only those younger than us.

Teaching is a tough profession. I just did not mind them at all and instead I just focused on the task given to me that day. I do not want to spend my energy dealing with their narrow minds.
