Which Will You Avoid Running Over, the Worm or the Snake?

I thought I was jinxed by my phobia for snakes!
Yesterday morning, while I was biking, I saw a big earthworm crawling on the road, so I avoided hitting it thinking it is very useful in keeping the soil fertile. Then I made another round, cautioning myself not to run over the earthworm, but while I looking intensely on it, I saw from the corner of my eye, a snake near the earthworm and I could not immediately stop the bike, so I did not know how I managed to pass between the two creatures! I just stopped when I was some four meters away from them.
The snake crawled towards the other side of the road to the grassy vacant lot, good thing it went away from me and I did not ran over it. Maybe it was frightened , and failed to eat its "earthworm breakfast."
In such situation, I am sure you will also avoid hitting the snake?

I do not know about that folklore. It could be a superstition.

It's been almost ten years now since I rode the bike .. I imagine that I would panic if I see a snake .. but the earthworm would be too small for me to see ..

Yes, I saved them both, it is because I am afraid to hit the snake because it might bite me; but the earthworm, I really avoided hitting it because it is helpful to the soil; the snake has its beneficial role too, but I don't like the animal.

If you accidentally hit it when you are in a car, there is an excuse for it, but if in a bike, one can easily make some maneuvers to avoid it.

It is little dangerous if you are on board a vehicle, not a bike.

I would have freaked. I hate snakes. It is one of my greatest fears. I can't even look at pictures of them without getting chills.

Same here. I do not know, I continuously spat on the ground because I saw it wiggling towards the grassy side of the road.

You are correct, I think of that too, even if it is small, it has deadly venom and it will not die instantly.

It can be easily done when you are in a car, but not in a bike where the rider is exposed to it; I also hate snakes!

I hope they don't make this place their home, or we wouldn't be aware of them.

There are lots of grassy areas in our place; the reason I adopted a stray cat because snakes are afraid of cats.I also plant mint plants around our fence to ward off snakes.

i'm thinkin' that hittin' a snake'n a bike aint a good idea. i do my best to avoid doin' harm to all creatures myself...'xcept those grasshoppers. i confess to feedin' 'em biological controls to slow down the population 'xplosion.

Grasshoppers are voracious eaters, they fed on my basil plant. pepper, etc. It is alright to kill them.

When I'm in my car, I avoid hitting anything that looks like it's alive. I once slammed on my brakes when a leaf blew across the road because I thought it was a mouse. lol

That could be dangerous, at times you just let it happen instead of endangering.

@acelawrites I'm always careful. I check to make sure there are no other cars that are too close.
