Susan Slusser reports the news on Sunday the Oakland Athletics have released their first baseman and designated hitter Billy Butler, 30. Butler had started his career in the Major Leagues with the Kansas City Royals in 2007. Butler had played for the Royals from 2007-2014 before he signed a three year, $30 million dollar contract with the Oakland Athletics before the start of the 2015 Major League Baseball season. Butler had a batting average of .276 during the 2016 baseball season at the time he was released by the Athletics on Sunday since they had no plans to bring him back for the 2017 baseball season. Time will tell if another team in the Major Leagues gives Butler a chance to continue his career in the Major Leagues or is it the end of the line for him.

It is a shame that sports stardom in baseball can be short as well as football.
