When the bus company first started running this bus three or so years ago it was practically empty. Well, at least from where I get on, which is the very first stop. It was always busy from the Quaint Little Very Historic Market Town which is halfway between Here and There. Gradually more and more folk have started to use it. It has free weefee {when it works}, posh leather seats and air conditioning. And it gets to There quicker than the next two early morning buses. A handful of us have been regulars since the beginning and we always sit {or used to sit} in the same seats. They are our seats and deserve big flashing neon signs with our names. Other people come and go. Some stay just a day. Others manage a few weeks. One or two become regulars. It is the non-regular folk who are the problem. *sigh* For years that seat was my seat. It had a bell and was near the front so I had no need to fight my way through oodles of passengers when I got off. Unknown people would sometimes sit in it, but I forgave them their silliness, for how were they to know? And then Quiet Man stole it. He beat me to the stop every day. The seat on the other side became my seat. Now Man with Stick has stolen Quiet Man's seat. Quiet Man is in my seat {so rude!}. So I moved to a seat slightly further back. This continued for over a week. A week is long enough to claim a seat as yours, no? But today even that seat has been claimed by two young folk who have only been getting the bus for two days. And I've had to move across to the other side, which means I'm now the rude one who's stolen another regular passenger's seat. I think he's glaring at me now. Honestly, at this rate I'm going to be sitting at the back of the bluddy bus! That's my rant over. Enjoy your day!

It is funny how we set in our ways and it is hard to adjust to change. I take the bus too and from work every day and most times I do sit in the same seat if it is available. i. also, note regulars who do the same. When my grand daughter is with me I let her choose the seat and she has the one that she always chooses. I am sorry that somebody took over your seat on the bus though.

I'm hoping that Man with Stick will stop using the bus soon. Then Quiet Man can get his seat back, and I'll get mine. I have a dreadful feeling that I'm going to be stuck further up the bus for a while, so I'll be treading on plenty of people's toes as I stumble past them to get off.

@Poppylicious I hope it all works out for you soon and that it is only temporary.

You made me laugh saying "They are our seats...". When we traveled several times a year to the United States and I called Delta to check the availability of places, the girl who knew us checked first if "our seats" were available. Of course, if not we changed the date.

Lolz! That made me giggle. If I get to the bus early tomorrow and sit in the Man with Stick's seat I wonder if he'll write a blog post about how I stole HIS seat!

At the start of the school year, I insist that The Boy take the bus every day even if the weather is fine or someone wants him to walk with them. It is because it is so important to establish your presence on the bus, to stake out your claim and to cement your rightful passengership (is there such a word?) in the minds of the driver and all who ride along. Obviously, these non-regular people on your bus don't understand how the rules of passengership apply to seating arrangements. This is what happens when you stop teaching etiquette in schools.

It's a disgrace. I don't know what the world is coming to. Future generations will just sit wherever they like, randomly.

I tend to be a creature of habit with bus and pub seats too - I hate it when others beat me to a seat or friends moan about wanting to sit in another part of the vehicle/place

It's funny how we become so possessive of something we have no right being possessive over!

The reason I don't use public transport is because it is used by the public!!!

Oi, I'm a member of the public race! You publicist, you! I don't think that worked. Oh well. :)

@Poppylicious Not quite but nice try! I'm actually more offended at being lumped in with the likes of Max Clifford than the suggestion I might be discriminatory in any way!!
