Diary – Wednesday 14th September 2016

I woke up at my friend’s house in Chorlton, Manchester, early as I knew she was going to have a busy day. I went for breakfast with her and a few of our friends at a bar near to her home, where we chatted before I made a two bus journey to my old home to see my mum for the first time since leaving for my new house in Preston just over a month ago. My mum’s house was busy as she has decorators in working on three rooms, including my old bedroom. A nurse was visiting giving my mum a routine monthly check on her blood pressure and current medication needs. She felt my mum is making good progress and only advised a few tweaks in her drug treatments. My sister was present to help take in the nurse’s advice and make sure my mum follows her instructions properly. She never spoke to me and left right after the nurse did. My mum was pleased to see me. The cat seemed more indifferent, possibly sulking because I left in the first place. I chatted with my mum for a few hours. I also met the decorators during their lunch break, and they are clearly working hard on necessary improvements to the house. My old shed has been demolished and all the rubbish left behind after my own departure has been disposed of. I picked up some mail that had been sent to me at my old address – nothing important. I called in the main city library for a few hours and joined friends in a city centre pub for my last hour in the city before heading for my coach back to Preston, tired, but happy. Arthur Chappell
