The good old seaside saucy postcards

British seaside postcard

Recently I have submitted a couple of posts on humorous postcards, which I tend to have come across in progressive degrees. This time I am displaying an example that I found in Blackpool earlier in the week. This is definitely the type of postcard which used to be such a familiar sight at British seaside resorts. These appear to be so scarce nowadays that I began to genuinely believe that they were no longer available. Of course I was delighted when I chanced upon a small selection of these, which are really reminiscent of the old days. There have been a few amusing postcards around at other resorts, but Blackpool so far is the only place that I have found some genuinely saucy postcards.

I haven't seen any of those for years. I remember spending time reading all those on the postcard stands, such fun.

We all used to stand there reading them. That was part of a British seaside holiday back in those days.

These were a part of all seaside holidays here in the old days. Every coastal resort had a vast selection on display.

Creating these cartoons for the seaside postcard trade was big business at one time. There were a couple of regular postcard artists who are vastly sought after these days.

@JudyEv Considering the huge volumes of these postcards that were sold, it was probably a great source of income for a cartoonist.

@Asylum It doesn't take long to recognise an artist by the way he draws his figures. I can imagine some were very popular.

that's one funny postcard. I don't think I ever found such in my country. The post cards here are usually just photos of tourist spots.

The majority here are of picturesque design, although in days gone by the funny cartoon variety was abundant in seaside resorts.

There were hundreds like this at every resort in the old days. As Janet mentioned, we would stand at the postcard racks for ages reading them.
