Favorite Sitcom Characters #4 - Archie Bunker

#4 is the only true classic character (some might say the greatest) in my Favorite Sitcom Characters series. I'm talking about All in the Family's Archie Bunker. Brilliantly played by Carroll O'Connor, is an ultra-conservative bigot who has a problem with Blacks, Hispanics, Gays, Independent Women, and Liberals (especially his liberal son in law, who he unaffectionately calls "Meathead." He loves his wife Edith (Jean Stapleton,) yet berates her constantly (he refers to Edith as "Dingbat." His best moments, to me, anyway, are his arguments with Meathead (Rob Reiner.) Best one? A verbal skirmish on the proper way to put on shoes and socks, which I've linked below. Face it. All in the Family would simply not have flown these days. Too controversial and politically incorrect. The show ran for 210 episodes in nine season's, from 1971-1979. Even so, if you take Archie as a bowhard, he was hilarious. He's only #4 because the Top 3 just happen to be characters that I watch more. Enjoy Archie and Mike's argument:
Archie tries to teach Meathead the correct way to put on his socks and shoes.

I loved that show. It was run at the right time for the right reasons, this show helped open the eyes of many people who were clueless about the many racial slurs we'd come to simply accept as normal ........ now everything is a slur so it's best not to talk to anyone

They tackled some pretty controversial topics, too.

He is probably my all time favorite and would, no doubt, support Trump, until Edith set him straight.

Gotta love Archie! That clip is pretty funny, but Meathead did have a point. I put my shoes and socks on both ways.

I do one at a time like Meathead. Always left foot first. I take them off right foot first.

Wow, if this show does not make you things need to change, then you should live in it. Not really a joke but might think it is a bad one. Ha ha

What was funny is when she wouldn't stifle it and stood up to him.

It never gets old. We watched the entire series on DVD not too long ago.
