Unarmed black man surprised to be shot dead after ignoring the police...

If the news were factually reported, instead of slanted/biased, this would be the 'header' about Terence Crutcher.
Face it folks...it is not a racist statement. If I was walking towards my vehicle, ignoring commands to stop, reached the vehicle, and lowered my hands towards it, I would not be surprised in the least to find myself at The Pearly Gates (or perhaps in The Lower Levels of Hell, depending on how good The 'G'-Man and I had been communicating lately).
"Facts is facts" as some wise person has stated at one time or another.
The MAIN fact is ol' Terry did not have his hands raised in the air when he was shot.
He repeatedly ignored commands to stop.
Sure...I guess the cops could have just let him open the door and do whatever he was doing...after all, he had no weapon.
But how were they supposed to know that?
He ignored lawfully issued orders...all he had to do was stop.
But of course, I am a racist for saying that.

The simplest solution...When in doubt, shoot to INJURE not KILL. How hard is that to do? Shooting him in the leg would have accomplished the same goal....he would have been incapacitated..
Also...the words "Black" or "White" or "Brown" do not need to be highlighted...that is what causes the "raciest" problems...

The police always seem to use the same line - "we thought he had a weapon" whenever they shoot someone. This idea that it's somehow your own fault if you get shot seems a weird way to think. The police shouldn't be going around with the, "if in doubt shoot" mentality. Nor is it the duty of a citizen, surely, to ensure they don't get shot. Shouldn't shooting be last resort? Seems to me the police are too trigger-happy or they just can't keep cool in a crisis, in which case perhaps they're in the wrong job.

Oh, so people do not have a responsibility to follow lawfully given orders? They (the police) should just take a chance on someone reaching into the vehicle for a weapon? Or do you ignore all the cop killings lately?

I was a criminal for many years...and yes, it WAS my duty to ensure I did not get shot by a cop...if I wanted to live.

Why is it so difficult to understand the meaning of the word stop? If the police tell you to stop. You stop. If not you risk the consequences.
it seems pretty basic to me.

I don't know Mikey, there were four big cops up close to him by the time he reached his car and he had his hands in the air until he got there. Don't you think they could have stopped him from opening that car door without shooting him? I do agree he should have listened to their orders to stop but what if he was deaf?

@JolietJake Okay, I accept that at face value although he still could have been deaf and was reading their lips which he could not have done with his back turned. Do we know what they were talking about or why they as a group were so frightened of this one lone man?

He was not deaf, he had been talking to an officer previously.

Media sensationalizing things again, huh? I guess this is were my local networks get their strategies from. No, it's a like a guy killed for ignoring cops inquiry or something. I mean, why they do have to say a black guy?

@JolietJake wouldn't they get more views if it's black? i just don't get why they have to mention the race color.

Because if they said a white guy, it would make sense for it to happen...at least, that's what the media seems to think

I wish they had the option to tase before they shot, which isnt always a possibility I know, but I agree, he ignored them, and reached for something, dont blame them for shooting

In this instance they did both, one officer shot and another tased at nearly the exact same time. To me that shows that they both felt they were in imminent danger.

@beaniefanatic13 For cops against one man? How much imminent danger could they have been in. Don't they teach hand to hand at the police accademy any more?

No you ain't racist.....I don't see why understanding a bigger picture is always a trouble for some......I believe the victim was rightfully shot....besides that is just my own judgement nobody is bound to believe what I do

Race should never have entered it, honestly, but since he was black and the officer white, suddenly it is nationwide news.

@JolietJake that I believe is cause of poor education.....over my life I have met many Nigerian that do support the cause regardless of the race and same goes for white....but some uneducated peep never take the case before they see the race.....i won't blame the media cause they always need a point to hit the charts

Obey the law or face the consequences.
Both parties were at fault. Right now though, we need to remain calm and level-headed with the situation.

@JolietJake It's always assumed things like this are racially motivated. I just think it's a cop out. Pun intended.

Being as he had been conversing with an officer, deafness would hardly apply here. The assumption being made, apparently, is that it was racially motivated.

The media slants the information they share with the public, that I have been at the scene and when I rad the newspaper articles, wondered what they were reporting. It certainly wasn't the event I saw.

And then people take what they see (news 'articles'), and post it as 'fact' without ever really checking into the actual occurrence.

Thorough investigation should be done to know the truth in this incident.

I agree. And people should stop saying 'He had his hands in the air when he was shot' and claiming anyone that disagrees with that is racist.

@JolietJake the opinions now differ and it's wether they are black or white, this becomes a racist issue.
