Is It Too Soon

Saturday morning I arrived at the pool to find the elevator not working and had to use the stairs. Again this morning I arrived to find the same thing. Now I am improving. I can walk up stairs a lot better than I can walk down them. I have been thinking that in about a month I would be ready to walk down stairs like a normal person. So is it too soon to use those stairs instead of the elevator. I can walk up stairs normally and it takes just a few minutes to do so. However, I need to one step it down. My knees don't like the downward trek nearly as much as the upward trek and it takes twice as long and I'm out of breath by the time I get to the bottom. I tried to walk normal down the stairs going down to the pool one day last week and not only my knees protested, but my left one that I broke a year ago hurt more than I expected it would. So I'm not ready for the downward trek yet, but if the elevator doesn't work again tomorrow, I might find myself being forced to do something I'm not quite ready for and I hope it won't be to my disadvantage because things are going very well at the moment. We'll see what tomorrow holds and hope for the best. On the bright side, I did spend two hours in the pool this morning. So things are going well in that regard. I hope your day is going well. Time for me to eat and get at these notifications. Thanks for reading.

Did you ever fall down from stairs? Second thing is may be you have been in sedentary life too long. Third reason could be shortage of calcium perhaps?

Yes to your first question. I fell and broke my leg just below the left knee a year ago. Yes to the second question. I have lived a sedentary life for perhaps too long, which is why I'm in the pool every day and doing my best to lose weight and be able to get back to normal walking and stair climbing. I do have low bone density, so yes to your last question as well.

oh my it seems just like myself, you are being forced out of need to do things that may not be good for you. lets hope they fix that elevator. that is just so wrong for them to only have one and not get it up to standards

There is another one I learned about and if it isn't working the next time I'm there, I will use it.

It was fixed the next day. That's my daily goal. Sometimes it doesn't work out that way, but more often than not, I'm in the pool for two hours.

@just4him I do the one step up and down the stairs. My knees don't want to cooperate. A broken knee will hurt for quite a while. I am so sorry it is giving you pain.

I should have clarified, I broke my leg last year, just below the knee, not the knee itself. It's the arthritis that is making it hard to walk up and down stairs.

@just4him it's still a struggle with the stairs. I broke both ankles a few years ago and am having the same struggle. Arthritis rears it's ugly little head.

Call them before you go to make sure the elevator is working. I would worry about your knees giving out and you falling if you keep taking the stairs when you are not ready to.

I found another elevator and will take that if the main one isn't working again.

Be very careful with your knees, you are doing so good now, you don't want to slow down your progress.

No I don't. I'm thinking I should be ready for stair climbing by this time next month. Let's hope so. I would like to not be dependent on elevators. I know stair climbing is also good for you.

well you can only do what you can do, but it does sound like it is quite the improvement!

It is, but I'm hoping for better improvement in a month's time. So hopefully by November 1st, I'll be going up and down the stairs with minimal trouble.
