In An Egg Made Of Myrrh

Phoenix is the bird with the gift of dying and being reborn. It is a bird about the size of an eagle who lives for 500 years and then dies only to be reborn. With brilliant scarlet and golden feathers the new phoenix rises from the ashes and, when it is strong enough, it takes the remaining ashes of the previous Phoenix to lay them on the altar of the sun god Ra in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis. What happened is that the bird makes a nest of spices such as Myrrh and cinnamon. It sets the nest on fire and is reborn in the ashes. It has appeared in Christian beliefs as a symbol of resurrection and is a figure that is sacred in Japanese and Chinese mythology as well. The phoenix was used on Roman coins to symbolize the Eternal City..

I've never seen it used in Christian beliefs and I thought the bird on the Roman coins was the eagle. I learned something new.

@celticeagle I just looked this up and found what you are talking about, however I didn't find any reference to the Romans using the bird on its coins. However, the teachings of Clement who started this, took away from the resurrection of Jesus Christ with the Phoenix and polluted Christianity with his pagan beliefs.
