The Story of D

I'm not going to use this guy's real name, because (a) he may not like it, and (b) he didn't do this to call attention to himself.
As I mentioned previously, I was in the emergency room about 5 AM this morning. It was, thankfully, a quick trip (they got me out of there as if I was charging them by the hour!). However, all I had with me was my ID and my insurance card, meaning no cash and no money other than my PayPal account and a credit card stored on my phone.
Neither of these would help me pay for a taxi to get home. And, as it was the height of rush hour, I knew that calling someone to come get me would take so much time thanks to traffic that I could almost walk home quicker.
Enter D. He was running parking at the hospital. I asked him what to do and he recommended Uber. That would be cool, except I couldn't sign up on the spot without my credit card.
No problem. D pulled out his phone, logged into his Uber account, and paid for my ride home with his account.
I offered to return to the hospital as soon as I got home and got my wallet to repay him, but he refused. "Just pay it forward," he said.
So I did. I gave the driver a tip over what he'd already been tipped.
But I'm going to continue to pay it forward. Part of that is this discussion, to remind you to pay it forward to someone today.
Here's a classic Louvin Brothers song about the subject. "Do your deeds without a price, someone will pay you back."

My neighbor told me about Uber the other day. I might try it next time we go shopping.
