My love of acid jazz know's no bounds. Hence, my Favorite Acid Jazz Bands series. #6 is not a band, but an individual. I'm talking about Greyboy.
Born Andreas Stevens, Greyboy is a DJ from San Diego. Much like United Future Organization and Jestofunk, Greyboy utilizes musicians such as Karl Denson to play over his turntablism. Greyboy, although no longer in the band, he was the leader of The Greyboy All Stars (he now serves as a consultant of sorts for the group.)
The title of his 1995 album, Land of the Lost, is a reference to his large record collection, many album's of which rarely get played. That album's first cut, "Whirlwind," is a swirling sax and flute affair, under which Greyboy constructed subtle hip hop-style beats.
It's just one example of the limitless possibilities of acid jazz, as a misunderstood genre.
Meanwhile, enjoy "Whirlwind."

Is that a flute or a piccolo that I am hearing? What the heck is a piccolo? lol Either way, like it, as it is soothing to the ears.

It's a flute. Karl Denson plays both sax and flute.

@teamfreak16 Sweet, more musicians should use it. I know celtic punk rockers use some flutes. Sounds awesome every time.

@crossbones27 - There was a time I didn't care much for the flute, it had that stigma of being a girl's instrument. I grew to love it after I started listening to acid jazz.

Here is a discussion I wrote a few months ago that will explain it better than I can now.
Because I listen to it, a lot, I write about acid jazz. A lot. So just what is this musical genre with the name that scares most music listeners away? The...
