In a week or two or maybe three it will be time for me to visit the pumpkin patch and pick out a couple of pumpkins for my deck. I think a big one and maybe a couple of smaller ones will be all I will need to set a background for my little Autumn display. I haven't decided what else to put with them but the perfect idea is sure to come to me once I place them there on the deck. Have you ever seen the show on TLC called "Little People, Big World"? Ever year they open up their pumpkin patch to the public and they are visit by hundreds of people. They have a huge patch in Oregon. It's a show worth watching if you gat a chance. Will you be visiting a pumpkin to get a pumpkin for your very own this year?

Plan on it. Pick a pumpkin patch and go to it one weekend. You won't be sorry.

I can't recall there being one close by, I'd probably have to travel to Alamagordo NM which is about 150 or so miles from here

I've tried to grow pumpkin and I might try again but so much needs to be considered before I do @HazySue this is a desert and it takes a lot of effort to get vegetables to grow ..... provided them dang wabbits don't eat what little germinates ..... and if I get a plant to germinate there's the problem of it being way too hot and dry, I've noticed that many plants I really want don't like the treated hard water I get.

@rebelann Pumpkin vines take up a lot of area too. I am wondering if they would grow where you are.

Yes! Visiting a pumpkin patch is one of the things I look forward to every year. We have a really good one here that has all kinds and sizes of pumpkins as well as gourds and squash, and it's really cheap. My daughter and I usually go together and we have a carload between both of us.

@HazySue I love to decorate with gourds as well as pumpkins, so I'm glad we can get them here. I keep thinking I will try growing them, but can't give up the garden space.

It is fun wandering through picking out pumpkins. I used to take my girls when they were kids. They loved it. I wish I could get gourds at the pumpkin patch.

@peavey I like gourds because of the different unique shapes and looks.

I only have pumpkon patches in my virtual Hayday farm. Land is scarce here. Don't have the priviledge to plant own crops.
