An Interesting Fact: One You May Not Know

United States

Over the years, there have been many DIFFERENT forms of punishment meted out to criminals and dissenters. Everything from “burning at the stake” to “lethal injection” to “hanging,” “electric chair” and numerous other methods have been used. A rather ancient method was “beheading” so I was surprised to read this morning that beheading, as a punishment, was done as late as 1975. Yes, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia was shot to death by one of his nephews, who had a history of mental illness. For this, the nephew was beheaded. Now, I wonder if this was the LAST time that someone was beheaded for punishment or not. I know that some prisoners have been beheaded recently by terrorists. What do you think?

I think criminals get off to easily. My friend brother purposely got caught so he could go to jail because he couldn't find a job.

@moffittjc It doesn't work to deter crime anymore than putting people in prison does.

Some people prefer jail to having to make a living. At least they have a roof over their head and three meals a day. Go figure?

So far as I know, beheading is still a form of punishment in Saudi Arabia. I assume that other countries use different methods. China, for example, shoots the convicted on the back of their head. Singapore prefers to hang people by their neck.

Such punishments do little to deter crime, it seems to me. But, it should.
