When I was a youngster I lived with my mom in a little trailer across the drive from my maternal grandparent's house. My mom put some stuff in a pot on the stove and let it simmer. It smelled so good. I don't recall what was in it. It helped us breath better when we had colds and was just a nice and homey feel to our little home. It may have had Eucalyptus in us but other things as well.
I love candles, incense and wax pots in the winter. They smell so delicious and come in so many different fragrances. I was thinking of the simmering pots in trying to economize a bit and not buy a spendy candle or other expensive stuff. So I thought I would make a list of things that could be used in a simmering pot.
It's so easy! All you do is bring a small pot of water to boil on the stove. Then turn down the heat and let it simmer. Check it about every half an hour and add water if needed. Here's some ideas on what you might add to this to make your home smell inviting and good:
1. Lemon peel, orange peel, apple peel, etc.
2. Candied ginger
3. Cinnamon sticks
4. Whole cloves
5. Star anise
6. Juniper berries,
7. Pine twigs, short branches
8. Bay leaves
9. Rosemary, Thyme
10. Eucalyptus oil
11. Almond Extract, other extract you like
12. Favorite essential oils

My daughter does that sometimes too. The simmering pot is less expensive.

I've never made a candle. My mom made long ones but they melted and bent in the summer heat.

Some are better than others. My daughter only made the shorter stocky ones.
