What Exactly Is An All Day Breakfast?

I just had a microwave All Day Breakfast meal, at 2pm in the afternoon. It did not take me 24 hours to eat it.
Does labelling a packet of any food ‘All Day’ mean that any unlabelled food can only be consumed at set times? I have several breakfast cereals in which are not labelled ‘all day’, so does that mean I am not allowed to consume them outside of traditional breakfast times?
If I crack open a box of cornflakes at 4 PM, or even 4 AM will the house be suddenly raided by Nutrition Squad, coming through the windows in an SAS style raid on my kitchen and pantry?
I have an unpeeled banana with no instructions on what time I can eat it. What do I do?
The fact is that any food can be eaten at any time you want to have it. I have had curries and pizzas for breakfast and kebabs on the way to the pub. It is patronizing to tell me a breakfast can be eaten at any time. The purpose is of course to get us to eat the food more often so we run out more quickly and have to shop for more quicker.
Breakfast actually derives from breaking the fast – the first meal after a period of not eating, possibly in religious observance. Strictly speaking every meal, including dinner and supper breaks a period of non-eating.
If you thought it was confusing that the British call lunch dinner and dinner tea I now add further confusion by calling everything we eat from chewing gum to a four course evening banquet, a 24 hour Breakfast. Bon appetite.

@arthurchappell Think of the show Seinfeld - Jerry was always eating cereals, whatever the time of day.

I always wonder if the 'Use by' date means that the item will explode if you try and consume it at 1 minute past midnight after that day.

@marlina The series Frasier used to have a running joke where Daphne, the carer-cook, would mention how long ago the date on a food item had expired and then ask the household if they wanted to risk it. There's a difference between 'Use by and 'Best before'. I'll risk going a day or so over with some ready meals, especially if I nuke them for an extra couple of minutes in the microwave, but I won't take chances with things like chicken, seafood or rice. Not sure if I'd risk it with something like @arthurchappell 's microwave All Day Breakfast as there would be egg and pork products in there.

@asfarasiknow I just threw out a container (half empty) of yogurt this morning, I didn't want to take a chance.

You are so right. My favorite dinner is eggs sunny side up and fried potatoes sometimes with or without sausage. I remember a friend of mine who hated the tags on pillows that said - do not remove. She finally cut them off of two pillows and waited for the Pillow Police to get her but no one came

Arthur, I try and eat two meals a day and when I finish what I am doing I eat breakfast and then around Noon time or so I eat lunch during the week. I start to take my medication after lunch and cannot eat anymore after that.

It does seem a bit of a silly term to put on a packet of food that you're going to microwave at home. I can understand a cafe telling us it does 'all day breakfasts' because then you know you can go in there and eat a bacon and egg fry up any time, but why do we need to be told what time we can eat something in our own homes? I used to wonder if the term meant a breakfast that can sustain you all day, but I've always found that whenever I opt for a cooked breakfast, for some strange reason I'm hungrier again more quickly than if I'd had a humble bowl of cereal.

Thank you for the smile. I hope your breakfast was not one of those awful ones they sell in the supermarket in tins, but the real deal with eggs and toast and beans and bacon and sausages and black pudding. Oh, and a tomato. I think this a very acceptable breakfast, dinner or tea, but think you should only unzip your bananas after midday. Personally, I quite often substitute Special K for any meal when I cannot be bothered to cook.

I had curry rice for breakfast. My middle school flute players (one Filipina, one Chinese/Japanese, one Japanese and one Korean said, "In our cultures food is just food, not for any special time of the day. Americans are funny for thinking there is some food we can't eat for breakfast."

I love things that are considered breakfast foods (like eggs) at any meal BUT the breaking of the fast one. I have to eat bland for that one or feel ill.

Sometimes, you are in the mood to eat breakfast for lunch, supper, or a snack. We have eaten leftover pizza or spaghetti for breakfast and pancakes for dinner. I don't think it matters what you eat when, just so long as you get to eat every day.
I don't know why they labeled it that way. Maybe they think you can't figure out when to eat it.

I thought I was the only one that eat pizza for breakfast if there are leftovers and Chinese food too. You can really eat anything for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
