If you know me, you know I’m a reader. I read all the time and come across so many points of interest. At least, they are interesting to me.
I’ve been to Connecticut, but it was just passing through, on my way to somewhere else, basically. So, I have been reading this book “Every Day Geography of the United States” by Barbara Fifer.
I try to read about TWO different states each day and memorize some facts for “Jeopardy!” and other trivia games I play with friends.
The book mentioned the “Essex Steam Train” that runs a “16-mile round trip from Essex Junction through the Connecticut River Valley in early 20th century style.” That sounds so enchanting. I would love to experience that and was just wondering if anyone from Connecticut has ever ridden on this steam train and what it was like.
Another point in the book about Connecticut was that a person could “tour the USS Nautilus” at Groton. This is “the first nuclear submarine and the first submarine to pass under the North Pole’s ice.”
That would be an interesting tour too. I never hear much about Connecticut as a tourist state, but there were several other interesting things in this particular book, that I really enjoyed reading. There was a Revolutionary War State Park at Fort Griswold mentioned and a 19th-century whaling village, “with England’s last wooden whaling boat afloat in the harbor” at Mystic Seaport.
There was also mentioned, the “Mark Twain Mansion” and the cottage of “Harriet Beecher Stowe” and the “Noah Webster House.” And of course Yale University. See the photo.
I didn’t realize all these things were there in Connecticut. It makes me want to visit that state again.

I'm from CT, and have visited all that you mentioned. It may be a small state, but it is packed with history, is cosmopolitan, has great universities such as Yale, Trinity, UCONN, etc, and great theaters. It's shoreline is awesome! It's a wonderful place to live and between NYC and Boston. If you visit, let me know!

Hey that's Right! I forgot you lived in CT, at least part of the year. Have you heard anything about your place in Florida yet?
