Challenges.

Isn't it amazing when we see athletes pushing themselves to the limits and achieving personal bests and breaking records and raising the bar still further for others to chase and better. I take my hat off to them I really do. I think that what ever we do if we do it as well as we can then we can take s lot of pride from that and be inspired to try even harder the next time. We need to set ourselves challenges. In my short time here on Mylot I have noticed that even the most long standing members still set themselves challenges and some are really examples we could all do well to follow. I was getting a little bit irked with myself that I was not doing so well but one piece of advice from another member has been taken on board and hey presto already I see a difference. Do you take advice from more senior members on here and act on it? Thanks buddy.

I do try to take on the advice of others but I think the longer you spend here, the more it becomes clear to you the best way to go about things. I've decided that setting myself goals is a good way to stay motivated. That's what I've been doing with my running and I think it helps me stay focused. I don't really have any MyLot goals though, although obviously I aim to make the payout threshold each month. I don't think it would upset me hugely if I didn't.

@saulgoodman I'm only just starting out. I'm doing the Couch to 5k program. I'm at week 5 of the 9-week program so far and enjoying it. I want to be running 10K races by next year. Haven't thought beyond that really. It's all very new to me. I started it really to get my husband keeping fit again, because he really did need to start taking it seriously, but he's not been as motivated as I am.

I'm Scottish. If I don't make the payout threshold I would be devastated !! Running. I am walking just now and almost feel ready to run. My ambition with regard to running is to do a marathon again. I am on target to start some light jogging At the start of November. My wife didn't know this yet but I did do two laps of the track just to see if I could. Managed a nice sedate pace and did the two laps without stopping. All the pushing the lawnmower 2 miles every week whilst cutting the grass is starting to do me good. What sort of distances do you run.?

As far as this site goes there are only one or two members whose advice I'd take or ask for In the past when I've taken advice here it has worked. But the important thing is that the person giving the advice is telling you the right thing which doesn't always happen here

I think that's a really good point Mike. I have never believed that old thing about all advice being good advice.

@Mike197602 Yep. What amazes me sometimes is that the people handing out harmful advise do so and are chuffed with themselves. I gave a bloke on here advice about teeth whitening. I shouldn't have.

I think I am learning that its ok to be stubborn but to try to remain open to suggestion even if you have your doubts about something. After all there's no harm in trying and if you are right a bout something you can always say I told you so

Bearing advice in mind for future reference is a good thing to do. You just never know when that advice will come in handy.
