I Am Being Pummeled By Acorns

I was reading a post by Anna about the signs of a hard winter. One of them is an abundance of acorns. I have to tell you folks, you had better be prepared for the mother of all winters if my acorns are any indication. If you stand outside my back door, you can hear them falling whack, whack, whack, as they hit our cars and the driveway. Hubs cleaned off the driveway last week, it is covered again. It is dangerous to walk outside, yu can get hit in the head. I have taken quite a few pictures of them, at least they are good for that. How about you. are the acorns abundant in your neighborhood? "When the oak is felled the whole forest echoes with it fall, but a hundred acorns are sown in silence by an unnoticed breeze. " Thomas Carlyle

There is no acorns around here. I am glad I moved to a place where all it does is rain during the winter. So that will not be to bad.

I really do love the winter especially if I don't have to drive but in Florida I won't have to deal with it from January to march.

You should get a couple of pet squirrels to keep the driveway clear for you.

We do have several who have been visiting and getting takeaway meals, but they can't keep up with what is falling from the trees

The ground is covered by acorns and the holly trees are covered with berries that are already turning red. I fear that this year the winter will be long and rude. I love the quote.

@BelleStarr You are lucky to go south and in a couple of months there is not even the danger of hurricane. If I remember well it's from June to November.

I know that we have acorn trees on the property where we live but I don't know where they are. I do know that the squirrels have been extremely busy gathering nuts and such so I think our cold weather isn't far away.

Acorns are dangerous? You don't get a concussion when you're hit by acorns, do you?

@BelleStarr I am talking about NorthEast part of India where I stay . This is a big country with varied geographical features....there are oaks in the North West part in the Himalayan foothills. Sorce: From the internet On the basis of climate and relief the natural vegetation of India can be divided in the following types: 1. The tropical evergreen forests, 2. The tropical deciduous forests, 3. The tropical thorn forests, 4. The littoral or tidal forests, and 5. The mountain forests.

We have the same thing. Doodles knows not to go in those areas and runs away, usually to me. I throw them for him to chase. Florida is calling our names! Lucky us. Time to get out of Dodge!

I love that quote. There aren't any oak trees around where I live. I think I would need to go to the parks to find any acorns and see how they are falling. So far I haven't seen any hard evidence of a harsh winter here. It would be nice though as I love winter.

I think there are several indications that there is going to be a bad winter even the Farmer's Almanac if I am not mistaken.

@BelleStarr I heard one mention of that in my area that it would be a cold winter, not so much one with a lot of snow.

The oak trees around here are not as full of acorns as I have seen in past years so it looks like a mild winter here is coming

We don't have any oak trees, so none of that here at our place, but our pine trees are loaded with cones which is another sign of a bad winter approaching.

I don't have any oak trees near me so no acorns, which for me is very sad. I love acorns and hold a special nostalgic feeling from my childhood for acorns. I wouldn't hundreds of them pummeling me but a few would be delightful.
