Do they check the credit card signature?

Long time ago I thought the sales must check the credit card signature carefully. If your signature didn't look like the signature on the back of the credit card, they might refuse it.
But now I doubt whether they really follow this instruction. As sometimes I will give my credit card to my parents and let them pay for the shopping. Of course they will sign my name. At first I was worried whether they would not accept it. But the fact is the deal goes well without problems at all.

@succeednow I am afraid that it is easier to get my PIN rather than my signature.

@youless Signatures can be easily forged. Better to use PIN as it's definitely more secure than signatures.

@youless Paywave may be convenient but if someone picks up your Paywave card he can easily wipe out your account by doing multiple small payment transactions using it. Bad idea to get Paywave.

The whole concept of security seems to have been discarded these days. Now you can use a credit or debit card without signing or entering a PIN number. Many places accept payments up to £30 by simply holding the card close to a scanner.

@youless You're right. They do not check the signature on the credit card. That's why one must be extremely careful not to let one's credit card fall into the wrong hands. Need to report immediately if lost.

They hardly check now a days.
I even have the words check id and not many check - one out of ten visits maybe I'll have someone check.

Yeah they don't anymore. I guess it's because technology is so evolving that they don't need to anymore.

Walmart has said on several occasions that they are not required to check it. And with the new chip cards, they don't have anything to do with the cards at all.
