Baby Shower -- The Cake

My middle daughter's sister (half sister), who lives out of town was to make the cake for the shower as her gift. Just a few days before the shower she hit us with the bad news that she had to work and couldn't make it. Of course I freaked out on her saying "OMG! We have no money to buy a cake". She then came up with a friend here in town to make the cake and she paid for it. Let me say that the cake I picked up, and the price Andi paid for it, was nothing like what we were supposed to get. The gal making the cake said that we would need to come up with the Winnie the Pooh toys for the top and sides of the cake. We couldn't find any anywhere except one Winnie at Walmart that was $4.44. Again, my oldest daughter got creative--I wonder where she gets that from? She ended up buying a remnant piece of flannel with Winnie the Pooh characters on it. She cut each of them out and glued them on to clear plastic Christmas bulbs. She then stuffed the bulbs with yellow confetti. They looks pretty good on the cake in place of the toys. Jasmine now has Winnie the Pooh Christmas ornaments, and I used the rest of the flannel printed fabric and made her 3 burp rags with it!

Thank you. You have to love the internet for ideas when you need them too.

The cake itself did taste great...but another disappointment with it is that the lady who made it used store bought frosting instead of homemade.

Despite the fact that the cake was supposed to be twice the size, it turned out that it worked fine and was more than enough to feed the guests.

Yes. I wonder if she knows where her Christmas tree is or if again this year she will have to buy one. She moves so often and never takes most of her stuff with her!

I could have easily made the cake myself had I had the time.....not pay that lady $35 and then still have to come up with the decorations to put on it.

Necessity is the mother of invention, they say. Or Marsha is the mother of Liz. Good idea to give her a Christmas decor start.
