#2 in my Favorite "Girl" Songs series (@FourWalls is doing one as well. We have yet to match on nearly 20 songs,) is Duran Duran's "Girls on Film." Duran Duran formed in Birmingham, England, in 1978. The band was most successful in the 1980's, when they became popular through glamorous, groundbreaking videos, which received massive airplay on MTV. Wikipedia says the group has placed 21 singles into the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and has sold over 70 million records worldwide. They also have won two Grammy's and two Brit Award's, and have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. From their eponymous 1981 debut, "Girls on Film," did not (other than hitting #5 in the UK) reach the heights attained by later singles. In fact, it failed to chart in the States at all. Yet it remains one of their most popular songs to this day.

I like them. I know a lot of people who don't, however.

Actually, yes, they are still at it. Four of the original members, even.

I would almost call Girls on Film their signature song though maybe Hungry Like the Wolf is.

I would say "Hungry Like the Wolf," but "Girls on Film" would probably go second. "Rio," maybe.
