This great lyric from the Eddie Floyd hit, "Knock on Wood" written by him and Steve Cropper in 1966 came to mind this afternoon. I had looked at Weather Underground earlier today and they said that rain would begin at 2:15 PM today. I have never seen a weather service predict a time like that. I happened to notice the time was 2:16 later, glanced out the window, clouds, no rain. My thought was, so there, no one can predict that closely. Fifteen minutes later, an ominous rumble came from above and probably an inch of rain fell in fifteen minutes. Then there was a very loud thunder clap, something rarely heard in western Oregon, along with lightning. So, the Underground was pretty close after all. All this noise and rain is a dress rehearsal for Saturday, when we are expecting 45 to fifty MPH winds and lotsa rain here in the valley and 95 MPH at the coast. A very unusual tornado or two touched down on the Oregon coast, causing a bit of damage in the little town of Manzanita. I was looking up who recorded that song and there were many, like Ray Charles and even David Bowie. The version linked to here is Amii Stewart, a 1979 version that was featured in a film called "The last days of disco," a strange version of this old R & B tune.
