Interesting way to eliminate odor on small items

I tried this with a protein shaker bottle after getting the tip at the gym. If you put an item in the freezer, the cold will kill the bacteria. The odor is a result of the bacteria, so it knocks it out! The bottle was empty, and I just put it in overnight.

False. The cold will NOT kill bacteria.

I accept the correction, but it does say it kills them, just not all of them. It doesn't mention the effect on the smell however.
“one might think that if the temperature drops well below the human body temperature they will not survive,” Cary writes, “but actually many will. Many are preadapted to survive low temperatures.” And it takes only one survivor to repopulate your jeans when they warm up."

I think you have to handwash with some dish detergent.
