Can MyLot save you $125 in an instant?

It can if you are thinking of buying headphones. Everywhere I go, I see young people wearing what I believe are called "Beats by Dr. Dre," or something like that. They sell for $200 and advertise heavily on TV and the internet. I have no idea who Dr. Dre is or what his Doctorate is in, but it certainly isn't acoustical engineering. I heard a pair of those $200 headphones and they sound terrible--boomy bass, unclear midrange, and non-airy highs. They look kind of cool, though. I recently wore out my Sennheiser HD-280 Pro headphones, so I bought another pair on Amazon for $75 the other day. I first learned about the Sennheisers when I was doing some guitar work in a studio for a friend's project. They were so accurate, I bought a pair immediately and have been using them ever since. When my first pair wore out a month ago (actually, someone broke the 1/8" pin connector) I bought another as quickly as I could. I see Beats by Dr. Dre as more of a fashion accessory than a musical device. Lemmings who buy what looks popular in ads have them. But if you want to save $125 and buy something FAR superior, check out the Sennheisers. Tweens and teens may look at you like you're hopelessly "over 25," but you'll be hearing music as it was meant to be heard.

I have the beats but I didn't pay the price tag. I paid like $30 originally $100 for mine and that was a good enough price compared to Apple headphones that I broke ALL The tim and kept repurchasing $30 a piece! And the current beats my boyfriend has $300 value were free with the iMac purchase! I wouldn't pay that much for headphones.

What kinds of music do you mostly listen to? I'm glad you didn't pay $200.

@TheHorse I listen on Pandora. Usually Hip & Hop + R&B. I would never pay the cost , they're too hyped.

@infatuatedbby Beats might work with hip hop, since they're bass-heavy. Rap and hip hop make me sad.

'Beats by Dre' is quite popular with the younger crowd. I had a couple of those but eventually went back to using my Sennheiser HD201 headphones. Agree with you that Sennheiser headphones are far better in quality than the 'Beats by Dre' one.

@TheHorse it is something that I've heard from friends who have used both Beats and Sennheiser headphones.

@allen0187 In spite of their efforts to be "different" or "individualistic," I think that younger people are more "conforming" to trends than older people. No offense to our younger readers intended. I was a teen once and wore torn jeans and longish hair just like everyone else of that era.

@TheHorse true. Younger people strive to 'stand out' but all they do is to actually fit in to what society tells them as 'cool' or 'hip'.

I have had Philips headphones which were not bad until the plug had a problem, but I have always problems with headphones/earphones plugs, and they generally die like that. I should buy Bluetooth headphones, but they are still a bit too expensive for my purse.

Plugs can become problematic, since they get bent, etc. I could have repaired my Sennheisers, or had someone who "owes" me repair time do it, but I got lazy and bought a new pair. The ear pads were wearing out as well. Too much work.

@topffer Yes, it's a waste if the things are going to get damaged. I only use my Sennheisers at home.

Hmm. If I was your next door neighbor, I'd check it out. Note to English Majors: How do I know when to use "was" v. "were" in my sentence above?

Is that the acoustical engineering department at a major University? NWA sounds like Northern Washington to me, which is a University I've never heard of. Perhaps that's why his 'phones sound so bad.

@teamfreak16 Gangsta rap? Why would someone with a Ph.D. sing Gangsta Rap? Aren't the lyrics about killing cops and "messin' with the white man" and stuff like that? One of my kid clients (from the 'hood) played some "Gangsta Rap" on his phone for me. It was absolutely moronic.

I thought technology was not up to mark as yet...now I get it...some brands are good but not popular..hmmm you should write a blog and mention this. Amazon will pay you if anybody buys Sennheisers from them..

I found a cheaper one in a department store and its still working up to this day and the sounds is great, I don't have a problem about it. It is just a local brand but works perfectly for me.

Sounds like a good thing. $200 for a fashion statement that doesn't sound good is ridiculous.

Since I'm so uncool that I don't have a mobile device that requires headphones, I'm out of the market. However, last Christmas my niece gave me a pair of earbuds that I'm using even as I type these words.

I don't use headphones when I'm "out," as I like sounds like birds chirping, cats meowing, and ground squirrels peeping. Oh, and the wind in the trees. I do all of my listening at home.

You're kidding about Dr. Dre, right? Rapper. Fake Doctor, not even honorary. I'll remember you are the headphone expert when i need a pair.

Yes, I'm having a little fun. The whole rap industry makes me really sad. Black Americans used to contribute to the best of American popular music. There would be no rock 'n roll without the blues. Now we have garbage masquerading as music made by people with little or no musical talent. If you're ever bored, read what one of my early idols, Gil-Scott Heron, had to say about contemporary rappers. It's on Wikipedia.

Never have used headphones. I just don't like to have anything covering my ears except for a hat in wintertime.
