October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Every 9 seconds a woman in the US is beaten or assaulted. At least one in every three women around the world has been coerced into sex, beaten or other wise brutalized. When I was in my early thirties I ran around with about eight gals, some co-workers and some I knew previously. Of those eight women five had been raped or sexually abused in some way. Women's and Children's Alliance(WCA) here in Boise is a non-profit organization that works to educate the public and end domestic and sexual abuse/assault. Safety and freedom from this abuse is available through the WCA at 720 Washington in North Boise. They have a 24-Hour Domestic Violence Hotline 208.343.7025 and the 24-Hour Rape Hotline 208. 345.7273 (RAPE) Purple is the color of choice and there are products like t-shirts, pins and tote bags available to show your support. These organizations help to place women in shelters and other things as well. The National Domestic Violence Hotline(1-800-799-7233) is a 24 hour hotline.

It's sad that so many women are being assaulted and victimized. It really needs to change. It's not something that I want for my girls. I don't want them to be treated like that, and I don't want my son to think that it's alright for him to treat women like that. I don't want them to think that this is alright. Thanks for sharing.

@celticeagle Absolutely. The more we talk about it and the more we get people aware, the better. It never hurt anyone to learn about this.

I think a strong bring up should be given to everyone of us inside our family so we can never let anyone to abuse us. And imagine if the whole world cares for the right upbringing of their kids the I think no one will abuse a weak, nor no one will let someone abuse them.

If everyone treated others with respect and consideration it would certainly be nice.

@celticeagle prob, sad, but most of us were never really taught how to be emotionally healthy, and that shows in how people interact
