Human Rights.

Should the International Community sanction countries more strictly where there is evidence that peoples Human Rights are being violated. Does the International Community really give a toss about whether some countries even know what Human Rights are? Or are money and trade agreements more important than actually making sure these rogue nations are accountable.

I guess everyone goes to their own respective governments for the Human Rights. Even though it is international as a right. .

Well I would refer you to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. A United Nations General Assembly Document signed in 1948 which sets out fundamental human rights. This should ensure that all countries adhere to it. But money talks....

@saulgoodman The United Nations is another shame. Maybe it is better than nothing, But I wouldn´t bet on it.

@marguicha The problem is with the right of veto at the Security Council, but without it I am not sure that UN would last long. It is worst in the EEC where any country has a right of veto, any decision needing to be accepted by all countries. Actually it is the French part of Belgium which is blocking a trade agreement with Canada, and even if UK leaves, they continue to block many important decisions agreed by all other 27 countries, like having an European army.

I used to be a big picture man...now I'm a small picture man As long as nobody is violating my human rights what happens to others is not of the greatest interest to me anymore. Sometimes I'll pipe up about some issue but mainly I just want to work and pay my bills and worry about the small things I can do something about.

Money talks, alas. It's very easy and convenient for governments to focus on human rights in other countries and fail to see that they need to put their own houses in order. The most basic human right is the right not to live in poverty but alas too many governments in apparently civlised countries will turn a blind eye.

The worst violation for me is children living in poverty. So sad. Seen some really sad kids here in Scotland in my life time. I would have thought an even more fundamental human right would be to have a home. The number of people in Aberdeen without a home suggests thats not a human right
