Not Voting In The Presidential Election

Why should I waste my time voting in the upcoming presidential election? The media has already declared Hillary Clinton the winner. There is no need for me to vote because my vote is worthless no matter who I plan to vote for. The media is already tooting that Hilary Clinton will win the election. They tell us how she is ahead in all the polls. They tell us how it is impossible for Donald Trump to overtake Clinton, so she has already won. So it’s useless for me to vote. How many people feel this way? I mean, why waste our time voting when the media is telling us who is going to win? Here’s the true. I fully intend on voting. Matter of fact I received my ballot in the mail yesterday. In this area we all vote by mail so we can vote as soon as we get the ballot. We can either mail it back or put it in a dropbox at nearly any pubic library. And here is why I am voting no matter who the media says will win this election. First off no matter what the polls say, my vote counts. If I don’t vote for my candidate, whichever one it turns out to be, then my candidate could lose the election. The other reason is there is a lot more to vote on. There are six initiatives, two advisory votes, one proposed state amendment, the U.S. president/vice president, U.S. senator, U.S. representative, governor, Lt. governor, secretary of the state, state treasurer, state auditor, state’s attorney general, commissioner of public lands, superintendent of public lands, insurance commissioner, state senator, two state representatives, two county commissioners, five state supreme court justices, and a public transportation benefit all to be voted on. If I throw my ballot away, what is going to happen with all the state offices and other things on the ballot? Before anyone decides it is useless to vote, think of everything else on the ballot. Before you throw your hands into the air thinking you don’t want to vote for anyone running for president, think about all the other things on the ballot that your vote will effect. Also, if you don’t like who is running for president, there should be (as there is on my ballot) a place to write in whomever you want. Or you can not vote for any presidential candidate by leaving that section blank. Everything else you vote on will be counted. So if you are registered to vote–vote. I wanted to post a young Paula Mensinger (from what I’ve read she is around 16 at this time) singing the Star Spangle Banner but in the link the letters formed what this site determined is a "bad word." So instead I'll post a link to her singing, "Cotton Jenny," when she was closer to 14.
"Cotton Jenny" sung by Paula Mensinger at the Pumpkin Festival, Sept 2009. A bit of noise from people near us.

Yep, no matter who they say has it in the bag right now, people better vote to ensure their candidate wins. Otherwise, it'll be another hare and tortoise story . . . the hare can't just assume it will win. Oh, I wonder what they thought the bad word was !

You're right about that. I just wanted to see what people would say about that. The bad word was an alternative spelling of come. It was a mix of upper and lower case letters so it didn't even catch my eye until I ran a word search.

@RichardMeister November is coming! Have you seen the SNL skits on the debates on you tube? Ah, spell check does not take context into account I guess . . . the word just happened to form randomly, probably.

I read others are 'voted out'.... does that mean you can't vote for a Bernie Sanders now?

We can write Bernie Sanders in on the blank and mark him as our vote. It will count. The Democratic Party has voted him out in favor for Hillary Clinton and most people vote according to the party's choice. There is actually 7 people running for President of the United States of America. The reason you never hear about the other 5 is because they are not with major parties so they are considered meaningless (not enough people are interested in them to vote for them but if they have a party's backing they will be listed on the ballot). As far as I know, there has never been a write-in that has won the presidency.

This particular election is quite disheartening. I don't know how teachers include it in their civics classes.

Yes! What the polls and the media says is immaterial. I have a duty as a citizen to vote and I vote everytime.
