How many of you remember a song by The Drifters called “Save the Last Dance For Me?” It rose to the top of the pop charts on October 17, 1960. The Drifters was one group that went through major changes before they scored a big hit. Popular R&B singer Ben E. King was part of this group at one time before starting his own successful solo career. After joining the Atlantic Record label the group started coming out with such hits as “There Goes My Baby” (1959) and “This Magic Moment” (1960). Finally they had a number one hit with “Save the Last Dance For Me”. Many other popular artists have done their own version of this song among them Bruce Springsteen and Leonard Cohen. Here is the original version by The Drifters http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/rb-legends-the-drifters-earn-a-1-pop-hit-with-save-the-last-dance-for-me
