My father was taken to the hospital today due to Tachycardia

I woke up this morning and got my daughter off to school. My son was playing a video game and I did the dishes. I sat down to enjoy my coffee and got a text from my mother. Last night at midnight she got a text from my father saying that he was having Tachycardia and it wasn't stopping and he was getting dizzy. This has happened a few times in the past. He has a lot of health issues.. a hole in his heart he was born with, strokes and high blood pressure etc. My mother told him to go to the neighbors and to have him take him to the hospital. He said the neighbor wasn't home. She told him to call an ambulance. She then got a text from a clerk at a gas station a mile down the road saying that he did not look good and she had called an ambulance for him and told her what hospital he was taken to. My mother drove the 3 hours up there in a panic. The doctors were able to get his heart rate down with medication thankfully (he takes medicine for it daily but apparently needed more this time). He is being released now. What started this Tachycardia episode was he over exerted himself bending up and down putting up sheetrock and cleaning up. He was paying a carpenter to fix up a little house my parents own and couldn't afford to pay the man anymore and decided he could just do it himself. He can do the work but his body cannot handle it. I feel very bad for him. He could have died so I am very glad he is okay now. He really needs to take it easy but he just has no one to help him do this and so he has to do it all himself.

I hope he's ok, he does need to not exert himself so much. I gather that your parents don't live together if she was 3 hours away, but she was obviously very concerned about him.

@Jabouk at that point my father wasn't here much. Lately he has been staying in town a lot more. @rebelann he doesn't think clearly after he stroke. Phones confuse him. I'm thinking he might not have been able to figure out how to call an ambulance. He did get ahold of my mother though but maybe he knew how to call or message her.

Is it a man thing that they don't call doctors when they need one?

Sometimes we have to help our parents either with money or, if we cannot do that, with work.

Glad your father got to the hospital and they got him taken care of. Men are stubborn at least some of them they can't sit still for nothing.

Yes that is how he is. My mother always called him a work-a-holic but really who else will do it if he doesn't. He doesnt have anyone to do it for him and cant afford to pay anyone.

Good to hear your dad is now stable and released from the hospital. Are your parents' separated? It would be nice if your dad lived closer to family. He should take it easy with house repairs and do 30 minutes here/there, and not to put too much stress on himself.

The doctor told him he needs to keep more hydrated while doing things too. I am the same way when I get something I want done I won't stop until its finished. I skip eating and doing anything that takes away from what I am obsessing about getting done. Yes my parents are divorced.

I'm guessing my father during this couldn't think straight to call 911. He has had strokes and gets confused with phones. The clerk called 911 and I am guessing my father had her use his phone to tell my mother what was happening because he couldn't do it himself.

He is doing well now. He was here for a few days before Halloween and went around with my sister and her 4 kids trick or treating on Halloween.

he attempted to drive himself and your mother drove 3 hours, good thing they were both safe while on the road.

Thankfully my father only drove a mile. My mother said her heart was pounding so hard on the way there that she was scared she would have a heart attack. I am glad they are both okay!

Thankful the clerk was smart enough to know something was wrong with your dad and called the ambulance for him. Hope that he will feel better in the days ahead. I understand his wanting to take care of things. It's hard when our bodies won't allow us to do those things we want to. Prayers for you and your family.

I am glad he was able to get someone to call an ambulance for him! I didn't realize how dangerous a condition Tachycardia can be until I looked it up online before writing this post!
