I always try to buy one children's book whenever I get my salary from my work. It is one way I think, for me to support my niece's education. I think books are better than toys. She is just 6 years old and I want her to grow up loving books. Do you also love to buy books to the small ones?

When my daughters are still young, I really want to buy them toys but everytime they see books, they rather choose books than toys. Until now that they are already working ladies, they still love to read books. It is really good for children to have love for books.

@magallon I can understand them. In fact, when I wait for my friends I prefer to stay in the National Bookstore while waiting for them.

@SIMPLYD Wow! You were very lucky. I would always envy the daughter of my cousin when I was still a kid because she has many big books. I was really a bookworm since I started to learn how to read well.

@annierose I can't remember if my parents read a book to us before we go to sleep . But our father bought us two big volumes of Fairy Tales by Reader's Digest and it was really read always by all of us that in a few years it was already so worn out .

I congratulate you for buying books for your little niece. Much smarter than those silly video games. Do you also read to her and listen to her reading to you? Most important!

Yes, I love listening to her reading. But, there is a problem. She does not understand the meaning of English words. That is why, I need to translate it for her.

My almost 6 year old has more books than we can count! I always pick up a book if it is informative, fun, has nice art, and is timeless. These are the criteria for me.

That'll be so benefical for your child. Reading is a very important habit and hobby for children. They can learn a lot from them. And meanwhile you can also bring your daughter to the library and therefore she will find the books she likes.

I think both books and toys are good as long as you give time for both. Without toys, they will not run around, have an imagination without the help of words, and will not know how to share and play with others. Books are great and kids should learn to love to read but no way are they more important. As a child, both are very very much important for them growing.

@DesirousDreamer I think getting bruises or scratches are normal. Hum..When I was commenting, what came to my mind was some news when even a child get killed because of his or her playmates.

@DesirousDreamer Yes it was. It is the reason I also look over to my niece whenever she is playing outside I do it just to make sure I know who are her playmates.

@annierose That is terrible that it happened, perhaps that is more of a disciplinary thing and not just a toy thing. I don't know anything about the story so I cannot tell what was going on.

@annierose Now I read the series The Black Dagger Brotherhood of J.R. Ward and I would say that is great. Also like the series Shatter Me of Tahereh Mafi. And many more. Generally prefer fantasy and dystopian. I love many romance novels.

@Letranknight2015 I understand. My boyfriend loves toys more than books when he was also a kid. I think it depends on one's personality. Or perhaps the people around you do not like books that much too?

Pretty picture books are the best! I like them for myself. Sharing a link. Your niece might like this book.
The Weaving of a Dream (By Marilee Heyer)When the beautiful tapestry woven by a poor woman is stolen by fairies, her three sons set out on a magical journey to retrieve it. A retelling of a traditional Chinese tale.

And the point is, many children love books, unless the parents put them in front of a TV all day. For an even great effect: ask the children what kind of book they want.
