The contractor who had drywall work done to our ceiling was dishonest.

The man who came to our house to look at our cracked ceiling drywall quoted a price to get the work done seeing as we were providing all of the drywall and even had a friend's step ladder handy the man told my wife and I that 250 dollars would do it. He left and we had to call him 2 weeks later to find out why he had not called us back. He said he only barely remembered talking to us but had originally confused me with another customer until I specified that I was the guy who lives on such and such street and after telling him what he told us about the work he told us he would perform he said, Oh. I remember you from the reference on the computer from Home Advisor dot com. Did I say two hundred fifty dollars? I said, yea. that's what you said. He told me to call him in another week cause he was busy at a dentist office doing some work for a doctor. When I called him again the next week he said he did not remember telling me that he would do the work for 250 dollars. I asked him point blank, do you want to do the job or not? He said he would send two men over later that morning. The two men came to do the work, one spoke half way English but the other was completely Spanish speaking. They removed the window screen to take the old drywall out and piled it up on a tarp. They also removed the ceiling fan and the fan's ceiling bracket was broken in pieces. When after 3 hours had passed, they had trouble putting the screen back on the window and my wife told them to just not bother with it cause they were banging on it with a hammer to force it back on and almost damaged it. When my wife asked the one man to put the ceiling fan back, he said, the fan not working, and she told him the reason was because the wall switch had to be pointed up to allow power to turn on the ceiling fan and the other guy just said, no speak English. They never put the ceiling fan back and after taking an hour and a half for lunch break, came in with alcohol on their breath and after all the work was done they seemed angry and I thanked them anyway. They man who contracted them to do the work that took them about 6 hours to replace a 4 foot by 6 foot ceiling dry wall tile and tape and bed it and not paint the man told my wife over the phone that because of the time spent on the project it would cost around 449 dollars. My wife gave him hell. She told him on no uncertain terms that she agreed to pay only the 250 as agreed on and not a penny more. The man said, well, then if you can get your husband to give me a 5 star rating I will drop waive the difference. She said, fine, and she handed an envelope to the half way English speaking Mexican dry wall dude and they went out to put away their equipment and smelled of alcohol breath and they finally left. Another thing, those guys were coughing and spitting the entire time they were working on that room cause they didn't wear any dust masks. I can't believe it. They were so unprofessional and last but not least, the contractor to have the drywall put up there in that bedroom ceiling did not provide anything in writing. It was all word of mouth and paid for in cash no receipt. Nothing. NADA. Case Closed. But, I did go online and give the guy a 5 star review although I did it under duress, cause he said if I didn't he would have demanded the extra 199.00 cash for a job badly done. I will never let a contractor fool me again like this one did. I will do more research. Next time, if there ever is a next time I will either go through The Home Depot or Lowe's to get more dependable and honest contractors to do work on our home. Basically it was a total nightmare. So if you want to know what I have been doing these past 2 weeks or so and not been online, that is the reason.

That is a nightmare. I'm sorry you went through that. Did you ever get that fan taken care of and the screen?

Me and a guy I know put that screen in place in about 2 minutes. The fan was put up properly by a friend of my friend who is an electrician but the mounting hardware did not match the bell housing that covers the wires where the pole meets up into the ceiling so that will have to be fixed but the fan is running.

I would remove or revise my review and put the honest truth up. You have nothing in writing and taking you to court isn't going to be worth his time or money. Here's the problem, your 5 star review is going to lead someone else to hire them to have work done. I read reviews and rely on them pretty heavily in my decision making.

@lookatdesktop, I hope that saves someone from what sounds like a half a$$ job.

Well, even though I gave him 5 stars I did also include the following information, that they did not paint after taping and bedding and took a long time to do the work. These two critical facts paint a pretty dull picture to anyone who might even consider them.

Yeah, I would have run the other way when he said he couldn't remember giving you that quote. I'd delete the review, personally, and give him the rating he actually deserves. What a sleazeball.

I just don't trust the man not to do something terrible if I tried to remove it. He didn't even bother to do a follow up or put anything in writing. As far as I can tell he was accepting cash and not keeping anything in writing just to avoid paying his taxes.
