When we were enrolling they told us my 9 year old son would only be spending 20% of his school day online. Yesterday I didn't think that seemed correct so I kept a closer eye today on times.
We spent 5.71 hrs on school work today. 4.11 hours were spent on the computer and 1.6 hrs were spent doing bookwork offline. Seems more correct if they had said only 20% of school work is NOT done on computers.
The day started with homeroom at 8:15 am. where they did a multiplication problems.
The first actual class was Science at 8:50 am. They watched a video and talked about layers of skin. This class ended at 9:50 so I let my son go do whatever he wanted until the next class started. He chose to watch youtube videos.
At 10:30 was Math. The teachers power went out so we were confused for a bit until she relogged in to class. The class then went over word problem division.
The last class was ELA at 11:20. The class was reviewing what they had learned while they read Flat Stanley. We hadn't read the story so we just listened to the class participating. That ended at noon.
I let my son have another break for a half hour and he again chose youtube videos to watch. I made him lunch and then we sat and did work the teacher had assigned from 12:30 until 3:50. 96 minutes was offline today during this but the majority was online.
Oh before I forget my son taught me a trick to count by 9s by adding 10 and subtracing one. I was impressed.

Wow, that is a lot of work, my son only has to have 5 hours of work per day. I know you tried to explain this in your previous post, but I wonder, is this through the public school?

@Carmelanirel2 They are all different how they work. Someone said that they do not have to do online work at all as long as their tests show they are learning well.

@shaggin Ah, I see. My son is taking his classes completely online and it is not connected to the public school. I do know a girl who is taking her classes online through her school, and I believe her requirements is that she is given a month's worth of work and can take as long as she wants to finish it as long as it is done by the end of the month. At least that is how I understand it.

Wow, if only this would work in my country. I mean we yearly experienced tons of storms by the starting of the school year. Some had to cross rivers and mountains just to go to class
But then internet and power will be an issue since we often experience black outs in every storm.
Good luck with your boy and i hope they learn something..but you did

We get a lot of storms here as well but usually if we do power is restored in an hour at my home as we are near the school. My son taking these classes online if my power goes out he can watch the recordings later on so he doesn't miss out but he won't be able to do the interactive part later. If our power goes out we are to email the school and let them know and then make up the work when power is restored.

Forgive me for saying so but wouldn't he be better off getting outside for some fresh air rather than watching YouTube videos? Maybe it's too cold now for playing outside. Please don't take offence.

It is to chilly right now to go outside and play. If it were warmer we would go outside and play ball or go to the playground and play basketball. Its only a short break of a half hour between the one class so its not to much time to do things. A movie or youtube videos is fine during that.
We are going to start doing yoga at the end of the day inside since we can't go outside. We have only had three days of cyber schooling so we are adapting to it and will work out a better schedule by the end of next week I figure. I want to get him to the pool to swim and to a gym class meet up again each week but for the week I just wanted to get him used to this cyber schooling.
