Another thing I think people think about bellydance is that the art form will magically make you fit. As much as I hate to, I have to debunk this one. While I will not argue that bellydance is a wonderful exercise , much similar to low impact aerobics - simply adding it to your exercise routine will not significantly trim you down. I am proof of this. I have been dancing for approximately 17 years, half of my life. I have gained and lost weight several times while I was dancing. However what dance will do for you is make you more aware of your body. Tis is a good thing as you learn about how you feel while moving, your posture. You will likely acquire added grace and flexibility. And those are worthwhile things, too. Photo: Mine

It's a good thing I think, though sometimes I wish that I weren't so aware, for example I can really feel it when I gain weight, and I can feel how quickly my back goes out of alignment... lol not just kidding overall body awareness is a great thing

We can't see your belly in the picture, but in my limited experience of belly dancers, they all have a bit of a wobble in the belly area. I think it adds to the dance from a watchers point of view. It's not something that I've tried, as blokes don't tend to do belly dancing. I am however, very proficient at dad dancing.

Way back when my sister and I were teenagers, before going off to college, we took belly dancing lessons for a short time at the local YMCA. It was a good experience.
