My son learned to play the piano when he was in the kindergarten. We just hope he will have fun with music. In the primary school, he attended to the band in the school and he learned French horn since that. I am not sure whether he will want to learn any new musical instruments when he is in the high school. It is all up to him and we still support him as usual.

My daughter played a bit of piano but she was self taught. She was quite good at it but never pursued it. As an adult she played the clarinet for a year. The musical one in my family is my grand daughter. She plays the flute in the youth orchestra. It is her third year. She also plays the guitar, ukulele and a bit of the trumpet and the mandolin. She loves music. She would love to play the French horn and the piccolo someday. She is only 8.

@Marilynda1225 She even reads and writes music. She will listen to a song and write the music for it then play it.

Your grand daughter is very talented! In fact at first I also hoped my son to learn the flute because its sound is beautiful and it is convenient to bring it! But since many children chose it, then I thought it was fine for my son to learn horn but somewhat teacher appointed him to learn French horn. Wow! I must tell you that the French horn is heavy and big. And the worst news is it is one of the most difficult musical instruments

That's cool! My husband can play a little piano and my son can plan the French horn. I am not good at music but I can barely play the ocarina. We may make a band, too

Your son sounds very talented. Our daughter plays the piano and her son plays just about every instrument. Her husband and my husband play guitars, I sing and we have a little family band.

Playing the piano is my frustration. But I know a little in guitar. My children are also interested to learn piano but we don't have money to spend for their piano lessons when they were young. It's my youngest boy now who is really interested to learn playing the guitar and he's starting learning already. He is being taught by his classmate who knows it well.

Playing guitar is a good choice. As he can play it anywhere easily. If you play the piano, you can't take it anywhere you want

My daughter's school had a music program starting 4th grade - so she picked the flute. She didn't practice very much during 4th grade, but she excelled at it in 5th grade. Currently she has stopped, but we hope she picks it up again (when we have more time!!).

You are great parents when you let your son decide for himself if he will like music or not.

In fact many parents are open-minded than before. We can give our suggestions but after all we still respect our children's choices.
